Those of you on this site in support of said ban, are you aware(outside of HB20 whom I think knows he laws) of the laws on the books regarding the ownership of what would be considered an "assault" weapon.

 

I will disagree with HB's assessment of an assault weapon however. If it isn't fully automatic it isn't an assault weapon, it is just a semi-automatic weapon that looks mean.

I can't believe I'm saying this in this way, but if the government allows an individual to possess any gun, they may as well allow them to possess any kind of gun.

A weapon that can cause mass killings in a matter of minutes. You have a 30 round clip in your M4 or M16 with two more mags on you. You could kill up to 90 people in 10 mins if you knew how to use it.

But isn't this the whole strict or loose construction idea? Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton argued vehemently on both sides of constitutional interpretation. I read Amendment 2 as it's the right of people to keep and bear arms for the security of a free state, if they are in a well regulated militia.

Ever body has their own opinion on this wording and its intent. Who's' to say another milita will never be needed .Those in power think without the right to own , they would not ever face this issue.

 

The primary measurement of gun purchases shows that sales have gone up . Federal law requires licensed gun dealers to submit background check requests of all purchasers to the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System. There were 8.4 million background checks from Jan. 1 to Sept. 28 2008. After the election sales sky rocketed. There are over 375 million guns known to be owned in the U S. and that does not count a lot of older guns that can't be accounted for. Those numbers tell me there are a lot of people who believe in the second amendment.

I'm not sure of what guns will be on the list but IMO no gun should be banned.

Semi-automatic or fully automatic rifles which are typically used by the United States military (M4 Carbine, or M16's are a good example).

 

I'm not saying that is what they will define it as, or anyone else for that matter. That's just generally what I think of when I think of an "assault weapon".

 

I'd love to own a few, but I can't think of a single reason as to why I would need it. I'd want it, but only to shoot it on a range. I would have no other use for it.

Why do you consider those assault weapons, because they look mean? Unless you want to pay $3000 a year for the proper lic you can't own an M16 now. Why should an AR15 be banned? What makes it any more deadly then say a Remington 7400 or Benelli R1 both of which are hunting rifles. What about semi auto shotguns, should they be banned as well?

The Bill of Rights wasn't meant to give citizens anything, it was meant to restrict and control the federal government. I started thread to get people's thoughts on what the constitution means to them, I hope that the people see how far off we actually are especially with ideas of entitlement.

Stud, many a person could do that with his favorite shotgun that he takes hunting on the weekends.

 

Silver lining in this development: increases the chance a Republican will win in 2012. As more and more Obama initiatives get installed, the pendelum will once again swing back to the right. And after a term or two of a Republican, it will swing back to the left. Oh we are a fickle people.

I like your point so if people can hunt just fine with a standard rifle why do they need to walk around with M4's or M16s? I suppose you guys think people should be concealing Glock 18's also?
