Seems the integrity,honesty,fair play and sportsmanship of the 16th is lacking at least by several officials. East/Elliot, Greenup/Russell & Ashland/Rosehill. How can we ask our young athletes to act with these basic attributes and as representatives of KHSAA as a whole you are lacking them yourself. Seems like if you don't have the talent it resorts to 8 on 5 to win for certain programs not all referees of the 16th resort to these tactics but seem to be intimidated or to insecure to do anything about it. How can the powers that be look their self in the mirror. One more dig of the spur- How did any of them earn the right to go to Rupp or Diddle, other than the reason everyone gets a chance they need to earn it by their actions :deadhorse:

 

I was told earlier in the year by a 16th region official who has called for some time, that about 90% of the refs hate Rose Hill. He said they are open to bash their team, coaches, and administration. Although he doesn't believe they make bad call purposely, he does feel this bias enters into their officiating. I have tried to get him to report to the KHSAA, but he will not.

 

The bottom line was the ref's were very bad, but Rose Hill still had a chance to win. Adjustments need to be made in the game. Mike Terry has to get the ball more during the game and not just at the end when the team is trying to come back. I thought he could have taken Skaggs on the block any time he wanted. When Bonner was guarding him they should have cleared the lane and let him beat him on the dribble. Turner, who is probably the most athletic player on the team, was also underused in this game.

 

Congratulations to Ashland. I hope you get the help you recieved last night the rest of thw way through. You will need it.

I won't comment on the officiating other than I haven't seen Kouns this season in all the basketball I've watched except for this game. Ironic to say the least. I would like to say that the play that I thought turned it around for Ashland was when Rose Hill transfer Ryan Whetsel drove thru the lane for an and1 in the fourth quarter. Big play.

Before this thread gets ugly I would just llike to say good job to all the Rose Hill boys but especially my son Scott Gambill ,you left it all on the floor on your last game. We are vey proud of you and have enjoyed watching you play and will miss your crazy little pre game handshake. :lol: We love ya.

 

Scott played his heart out and deserves all tourney IMO. Good luck in the future. I think Scott can play college some where with his size as a guard and his shooting ability. Many seniors see this as the end but it is only the beginning of the journey.

Somehow defending the fiasco-37-10 foul shots in favor of the pressing team, 5 turnovers, press whole game and commit 11 fouls-with "you could be wrong..." tells a lot more than was probably intended.

 

Nonetheless, at least ballbrain broke the silence a little.

I am not a big supporter of any one particular team, I tend to root for kids that I know or know their parents but I attend mostly Ashland games because it is where I live, it is where I grew up and went to school and I know more of the people. Fair is fair and facts are facts like it/them or not.

I'm just trying to follow your lead and not start slamming people, refs are people too, that I have to live with here in our fair community. I would offer that we disagree on this matter however. A lot of players left a lot on the gym floor last night and I was proud of all of them. To say that Ashland didn't deserve to win, just cutting to the chase, is to dishonor the players and coaches really on both teams. If both teams were not viable forces to be reckoned with it wouldn't mean anything to both fan bases to win. I certainly do not subscribe to the notion that there was some sort of clandestine ref conspiracy in all of this, and I am proud to go on record in saying that. Were some calls missed? I've never seen a game I thought calls weren't missed. I've also never seen a game where the guy sitting next to me didn't see serveral things differently than I saw them. Good Luck to you in the future.

Ashland attacked the basket tonight which will result in more contact thus more fouls called. Rose Hill settled for jump shots. When they were hitting they had the lead, when they went cold Ashland assumed control of the game. Both teams fought hard, both coaches coached hard. Great game to watch. I didnt think the referees had anything to do with who won the game.

 

I agree 100% Nash the fouls that were called were fouls. I did not see any phanton calls tonight or any truly bad no calls. Delaney kept curling the screen and no one from Rose Hill stepped out to hedge the curl allowing him to get into the lane time after time. Congratulations to Rose Hill I thought you had a great game plan and your kids played with great effort. I wish you the best of luck the next few years.

I was not at the other games you mentioned, I was at the Greenup/Russell game and the officiating was good in this game. Not everyone sees these games the same way, as I have said before, the officials are an easy target for the team that lost to blame someone other than there team. Not saying this is the case in the Ashland/RH game because I was not there, there are some bad officials and some good ones, some mentioned in this thread are good refs, but I agree some are not!! I just wanted to point out as a nuetral spectator in the GC/Russell game, I thought they done a good job.

Now that I've got the fro under control, what is there left to say about last night's game? Where to start? I got there early so I could get a good seat. Just so thankful Mrs. King had a Ladies of the Confederacy meeting and I got to enjoy the game all by my lonesome. I thought that foul discrepency was just silly. Mr. Bonner was the beneficiary of a fine whistle. Mr. Gregg brought the ball down the floor no less than 3 times with Mr. Bonner riding him like Man'O War and no whistle. But the highlight of the evening for me, and the point when I knew that there was gonna be some controversy was when there was a loose ball on Rose Hill's end in the second half, it looked to me (and nearly everyone else in the gym) that it was out off a Tomcat player and the young official on the baseline couldn't see it and asked for help. And who comes to the rescue????? You got it, creeking in from half court was old Grecian Formula with a crow hop and a slap of the hand and a tomahawk chop in the direction of Ashland. First, we have to be similar in age, so I'm quite sure without the bifocals he couldn't see any better than I could.

 

I want to congratulate Ashland's kids on the victory, and wish them luck in the final.

 

I hung around and talked with some old friends after the game, and I could have sworn that I saw old Grecian formula checking to see if he had anything in his teeth from his reflection in the 1933 state championship trophy. But I couldn't be for sure.

I don't argue opinion. I state facts and let you decide.

 

Fact: Ashland pressed the whole game.

 

Fact: RH did not press until the last minute or so.

 

Fact: Ashland shot 37 foul shots.

 

Fact: RH shot 10 foul shots.

 

Fact: RH outscored Ashland by 16 from the field but lost by 20 at the foul line.

 

Fact: Ashland was called for only 5 turnovers the whole game.

 

Fact: Kouns officiates a disproportionate number of Ashland home game.

 

Fact: Kouns made only one call negative to Ashland the entire game and it was a non-shooting foul.

 

Fact: Kouns made some crutial calls usually when he was not the referee closest to the play. If you need itemization, read some of the other posts like #116 above.

 

There are more facts and many opinions but this should suffice. I'm still waiting on a rebuttal.

I was not at this game, however, in general, many of us graybeards in the region of known for years that particular official should just put on a maroon jersey when the game started to aviod him being mistaken for a referee.
