I haven't witnessed any poor sportsmanship. Not between players, fans, coaches. All good sports. If you're referring to this board and this thread, where is the poor sportsmanship? Sportsmanship is between the players, fans, and schools. I haven't seen any of that sort here. Some feel that they were hosed by officials, how is that being poor sportsmen?

 

You've got to be kidding? First off, Some fans are not giving ANY credit to the Ashland ball players and for their effort in winning the game. Many of these fans are basically saying that the refs literally stole the game from their team. This is not graceful losing and it does not recognize the accomplishments of the other team. Basically it cheapens the win for all of the Ashland players who had no hand in the officiating of this contest. Second, this officiating controversy has just opened the door, once again, to snide comments between Ashland and Rose Hill fans. If I wasn't from this area and were reading these posts for the first time I believe the "intense dislike" between these 2 schools would be apparent. I do not consider this good sportsmanship between fans.

I agree that Scott Gambill is a class act! He was definitely under utilized by RH this year. Possibly they would have had a better record than they did if they had played him more. I think they are a better team than the record reflects.

 

I agree that RH had an opportunity to win. They only lost by 4. How many foul shots of the 10 did they miss? Also, Mike Terry's 3 pointer that hit the side of the backboard could have put them back in it.

 

Sick of people blaming refs for teams losing. Terry only committed 1 foul and had 22 points. How do we account for that? They called Delaney, Johnson and Skaggs for the first 3 fouls in the game. Refs COULD have called Kyle Bush for carrying the ball nearly every time he touched it (which he did). Johnny Bush who did foul out with just a minute or so left committed at least 2 more than they called. He was on Delaney like a wet t-shirt.

 

Personally, I cringe everytime I see Mr. Kouns come in the door. He has been involved in some of Ashland's more controversial losses this year, but again, you can't blame refs for everything. Teams need to be able to score more points and that takes the refs OUT OF THE GAME!

Indeed he is in the KHSAA H of F. However, it has to do with baseball rather than basketball. Also, Stan Musial is in the H of F but I don't believe I want him playing first base for my team today.

Yes, what I find most offensive about all the negativity surrounding this game is that there is hardly any comment on the fine play and the heart with which Ashland kids played last night. Like Terry, Dylan Delaney was incredible. Dylan also has been very sick this week with a sinus infection but played through it. Will Skaggs showed impressive poise at the foul line and Bonner did his best under the basket to lay in some crucial shots.

 

Emotions are always high in post season play but lets have some respect for both teams, coaches and players here.

All these posts defending Ashland and the officials are fine. However, no one as yet has offered a scintilla of believable information remotely explaining how one team presses the entire game and shoots 37 foul shots while the other does not press and shoots only 10.

 

We are talking about a gross discrepency here. Twice as many foul shots under this scenerio is hard to imagine. Almost four times as many by the pressing team is unconscionable.

 

If one of you partisans can offer a credible explanation, I'll refrain from posting what I believe to be the obvious.

 

By the way, Tru Blu's last three paragraphs in post #135 offer nothing of substance but much opinion. I suppose we are to believe that RH lost because they missed 4 of their 10 foul shots and the 37-10 is of no consequence. I do give Tru Blu an "A" for fantasy.

You've been around this area long enough to know that 99% of RH fans (or Ashland haters) will agree with you and 99% of Ashland fans (or RH haters) will disagree with you. If you feel that an injustice has been done, lodge a formal complaint with the KHSAA and be done with it.

His "factual quotes are tiresome" because they are counter to what you wish to believe. The Ashland kids played hard. No one is saying otherwise. But if you are so blinded by the glorious victory that you either can't or refuse to admit the officiating played a huge role in the win, then just kick back and enjoy the win. And make sure the Tomcat players concentrate on free throws at practice. Kouns may be calling your next game, also.
