Nice win Newport :thumb:

Great game tonight up on the hill. Dayton came out ready to play and jumped on Newport early on. Newport would cut it to 3-4 then Dayton would go on another 5-0 run.

Hats off to Dayton on a great season, and an absolutely great game tonight.

Congrats to the Wildcats and Sizemore on making those free throws. Should be an exciting game on Wednesday!

Congrats to Dayton on what sounds like a well played game on their part. As for my cats, survive and advance. Get this one out of the way and know you gotta play your best game of the year on Wednesday. You can do it.

Newport has a good team. They have some nice wins this year. This has to be one of those situations where they were looking foward to the next game. Mistake when you are playing a team like dayton. Those kids play hard and just want some respect. They should be in the running next year for the DIII title. Good luck to the cats next game!

Hit the nail on the head... They won 15 games this year, first winning record at their school in over a decade, and still the paper yesterday was talking about how Newport could upset Highlands without mention of the fact that they played Dayton first...

Nice win for the Cats. Not the type of performance I'd want to see though if I'm the coach, considering they now have the Birds on Wednesday.

WOW! What A game. Can,t wait till next year.Coach Dilts Hard work starting to pay off.Congrats to a good season devils. These guys showed alot of heart. Should have got A Few calls that didn 't go are way. but good game in all.LOOK OUT NEXT YEAR!!!!:dancingpa

Dayton is a team that is taught to play hard at all times. This goes for any sport they put out there. Dayton coaches have been able to put a system in place over the past few years that teaches all of their sports programs - you've got to play hard to get the respect and bring pride back to your school. Newport IMO needs to wake up as a team - you've got talent there so if you want to beat Highlands you better show up ready to play hard. Congrats to Dayton on a good season and I can't wait to watch what you are capable of doing next season.

It had nothing to do with the where the game was. It had to do with the fact that Dayton was the better team all night long. Start to finish. Opening tip to the final horn. And everyone that was up at NCC tonight knows it. Including the Newports fans and coaching staff.

There was a huge goaltend that was missed. Horribly inconsistant officiating. But that shouldn't overshadow the effort Dayton gave tonight.

Shonn Bowden owned Darnell all night. Bowden I believe finished with 22 points and around 15 boards and 5 or 6 blocks. Darnell fouled out with about 3 minutes left and might've had 8 total points, no more than a handful of rebounds.

Can't say enough about the effort that Dayton gave tonight. They will be a force to be reckoned with next season. They played nothing but juniors tonight.

Buttles will probably have more if he logs on tonight...

What a game. UB had the goaltend right on. Especially from my perch above the rim. Newport trailed until 1:38 left in the game. Hats off to Brandon Sizemore for hitting the two key free throws with 8.1 seconds to go to give Newport the lead and 60-58 win.

Dayton played extremely well in this one, and as UB said, the entire roster comes back for next year. 16-10 if definately better than 11-16 last year.

Hats off to the Wildcats on pulling out the win. Newport is going to have to be more focused against Highlands!!

Would have had 2 but was tackled going up for it!!

The wildcats are coming together at the right time of the season . In my eyes they are the hottest team in the region. If they come to play Wednesday I look for Highlands to be shakin in their boots.:scared:

I believe last season in a late stages of a blowout in the Brossart/Dayton game out at Bracken there was a Brossart radio announcer that made a comment about the young looking sophomore center from Dayton that had great potential... Wasn't that the case Mustang? That guy must be nostradamus because Bowden went off tonight....:thumb:

Thanks! I still pick a winner now and then - lol!

Newport better not play like they did last night or Highlands is going to blow them out of the water. If Dayton was the better team all night long then the scoreboard would have them victorious. No disrespect to the Green devil fans your boys played their hearts out and should have a lot to look forward to next year. As for the Cats put this one behind you and get ready for the Birds on Wednesday.
