Newport 60 Dayton 58

The bold is where you are wrong. There is a lot of things that aren't called, doesn't mean they didn't happen. OJ wasn't found guilty, that doesn't mean he didn't do it. The goaltend was a goaltend that wasn't called. Ridiculous that it wasn't called, but tough break. I've talked to non bias people, to Dayton people, and to Newport people, and they all agree that it was a tough break that the goal tend that wasn't called. So I guess I'm kinda done arguing about it because I'm not looking for justification from anyone else. I know what happened. So do a lot of other people....

But because OJ wasn't found guilty, and because the goaltend was not called, anyone who thinks otherwise, it is an OPINION, NOT fact.

I can't wait to see what happens tonight!

Totally unbiased - no dog in this hunt - I was there to watch a good basketball game.

My view is that the "no call" on the goaltend changed momentum. Had it been called, as it should surely have been, then Dayton goes up by 11 and has time to set their defense and extend the momentum they were enjoying. Instead, the crowd erupts, Newport gets the rebound of the goaltended block, runs the other way on a break, and the entire event creates chaos that results in Newport gaining the momentum back. From there they whittled away at the lead until finally overcoming the deficit at the very end.

Basketball is a game of momentum swings. James Pouncy and his crew made a difference in that game. Too bad for Dayton... stuff like that happens unfortunately.

It is to bad in a game like this some one has to loose, Dayton had a great season and will be better next year. Good luck to the Wildcats!

I was waiting for someone unbiased to comment on all this (I obviously am not)...it's a shame that we aren't on here talking about how hard both teams fought in that game. as good as Dayton played, Newport had every chance to fold up and go home, but they didn't and they pulled it out in the end for a great win. I think in saying that Dayton was the better team Monday night shows no disrespect to Newport at all because they had the guts to pull it out, but for anyone who actually watched the game, Dayton out played them for about 29 minutes or so. Sucks that a no call had to factor into the game, but like you said these things happen.

Congratulations to both teams for giving all the fans something to talk about and a great basketball game to watch.:thumb:
