Newport better not play like they did last night or Highlands is going to blow them out of the water. If Dayton was the better team all night long then the scoreboard would have them victorious. No disrespect to the Green devil fans your boys played their hearts out and should have a lot to look forward to next year. As for the Cats put this one behind you and get ready for the Birds on Wednesday.

Scoreboard doesn't prove who the better team was......only the winning team. Ask Newport's coaches and players who was "the better team" in this game and they will tell you. Dayton fell 1 goal tend no call short of the upset, but are classey enough not to make excuses. Newport advances so good luck.

What happened on the play where some thought there was goaltending?

Disagree one play doesn't make or break a game. The several references to the "goaltend" are what I would consider excuses. Newport pulled out the win and that is all that matters. A few plays either way and the outcome could be completely different however Newport is the better team and got the win.

Ball coming off the backboard on a layup clearly on the rim heading into the cylinder when it was smacked out by the trailing defender.....simply a missed call, and sportsgoon is right, one play don't make a game, but in a crucial situation of a tight game, that sure didn't help their cause. Just seems like a call that one of the three officials should have seen. Not sure what they were looking at, but everyone else saw it and one of Newports coaches was overheard talking about it as well. Buttels saw it best from above the rim where he was broadcasting according to his earlier post.

But as was mentioned........it's over. Good luck cats as your progress.

BTW......there's a difference in "excuses and facts". Was simply stating a fact that there was a crucial missed goaltend:thumb:

Seems bitter? Anyway, if the goal tend was called (which it wasn't so I dont even know why I'm commenting about it), the game would have went into overtime. Who's to say who would have won? To be, Newport had the momentum in their favor at the end of the game (obviously). Congrats to Newport and good luck against the Birds on Wednesday

And I'm sure several fouls were not called that would have sent Newport to the line. Things happen in the game, and you cannot pick out one play to put blame on for the loss.

Were you there????????? If so, you are blinded by facts, because we never want the facts to get in the way of your opinion, and if not, you can't comment intelligently about the facts. I'll repeat....ask Newport's coaches and players. Newport won, Dayton lost, and Newport moves on. Can't unring the bell. As far as your comment above, that's inaccurate as well, because we don't want to go there about fouls that could have/should have been called on either team and I'll leave it at that.:irked:

I was in fact at the game and the better team will be playing tomorrow against Highlands. This is definitely a wake up call for the Cats they'll be prepared come gametime tomorrow.

The better team overall maybe... But not the team that was better on Monday night. Good Luck to Newport. Beat Highlands...

Yes I was there. You keep on saying the word facts. Well the fact is Newport won the ball game 60-58. Another fact is, the goaltending that you claim took place, was not called, therefore was not a goaltend.

Great job Newport, keep it up Wednesday and meet up with the Breds in the finals!

The bold is where you are wrong. There is a lot of things that aren't called, doesn't mean they didn't happen. OJ wasn't found guilty, that doesn't mean he didn't do it. The goaltend was a goaltend that wasn't called. Ridiculous that it wasn't called, but tough break. I've talked to non bias people, to Dayton people, and to Newport people, and they all agree that it was a tough break that the goal tend that wasn't called. So I guess I'm kinda done arguing about it because I'm not looking for justification from anyone else. I know what happened. So do a lot of other people....

A lot of people know what happened was that Dayton almost knocked off Newport. They showed a lot of heart and tenacity but in basketball almost doesn't count. The Cats did what they were supposed to do they survived and advanced.

Who officiated this game? Shame the goal tend wasn't called.

No way Newport beats Highlands. Highlands will defend and get after Newport. Just my opinion.

Good luck to both.
