Another solid game. The fine season continues in Florence. But, it's 0-0 now with a nice break in the first round of the district. It's important to win district and I do not see that being a problem with the disappointments of the last 2 years. One game at a time. Congrats to the Rebels and good luck in the tourney.

Your comment is nice and indeed the Rebs have played great ball lately and will continue to do so IMO. Should be exciting. I would imagine there is a pretty good team down in Covington that would like a rematch. Will it happen? You never know in sports. Should be fun.

Why doesn't Zeke Pike play more? He certainly brings more to the table than the young man in front of him. He has a much better offensive game than I thought and its farther away from the basket than I expected. I'd have him out there the majority of the night.

 

Trammell is going to be a VERY good PG by the time he's a SR. The kid knows how to run a break.

 

Hatton. I don't see it. He's solid and solidly built but I think we need to take a wait-and-see approach with the youngster. His shot needs a lot of work. He's solid with the ball but by varsity standards he's just OK.

 

Boone's young talent is better than I realized and I already thought it was pretty good. They play very well together.

This seems to be Boone's pattern...a much better second half team than first.

He may be having to alter his shot which could be why you made your point. I havent seen him play yet this season. I know when I watched him play in aAU ball he would drop rain on everyone from 25 feet out and it was lights out. He probably doesnt have the same swagger when he gets in a VArsity game that he does when he takes the court against kids his own age. Give him time and he will probably average 20 a game for 2 to 3 yrs in a row. The thing I wasnt impressed with overall was his defensive effort.

I'd have to agree with Q. If Hatton's shot looks bad it's because of defense. Hatton is one of the best shooters at the U13 and u14 level in the area and around the state. If he gets to be 6' or 6'1", he will be a stud guard at the high school level over the next couple of years. I'm surprised by his lack of defensive effort, he usually is a bully on the court, but then again he is a 14 year old playing varsity.:lol:

The shots he took were wide open looks. For one he seems to shoot the ball too high which makes it harder to control.

 

His effort is solid. He's a solidly built young man regardless of what grade he should be in. He has a thick lower half.

 

I'm just not sure if he's getting much bigger so he's going to have to work on his game which I'm sure he will. I just don't feel comfortable projecting him as a big scorer.

He is scoring 16 in JV as a 7th grader and your not projecting him to be a scorer?? He had a bad shooting night last night, so don't make projections after seeing him one time. He is a very good shooter, but as mentioned before its a little more difficult playing against Boone Co, who contest shots very well.

For one he didn't play JV when I watched him - only varsity. Secondly the number of points scored in a JV game is irrelevant to projecting scoring at the varsity level.

 

While your point about only seeing him once is valid, you missed my earlier point saying that he wasn't missing contested shots. He missed open shots. He can certainly have a bad night and maybe that's what I saw. I just thought more would jump out at me based on the hype on here. The hype , by the way, is not fair to the kid. Lets just let him be a good player and not worry about where he will end up.

I'm certainly not going to get into a debate about a seventh grader, but I just have to ask about the bolded. What are you talking about?

 

Any good shooter and/or coach will tell you, shoot the ball up, not out. Once the ball leaves your hand, you lose control regardless so how does the height of flight affect shooter's control? The ball's not on remote control where you lose signal if it goes above 10'5".
