County still IMO opinion has not played their best ball. Nice win against a very physical Anderson County team. Penny got his (some on wild bank shots) but no one else got theirs. Not a bad game plan for the Flyers!!!! I have not seen a kid interact with the opponents crowd like Penny did tonight, maybe it fired him up, I don't know, it seemed a bit rediculous to me.

 

In any event Franklin County lead wire to wire with everyone stepping up during the game. If I'm not mistaken FC at this point holds opponents to fewer points per game than any team in the 11th, the sign of good defense.

 

FC has performed well the last two weeks against respectable competition. The weak middle sister of the 11th has reason to be proud.

Donovan had a great game with 17 pts 10 rebounds. It seems when his brother Chris shows up foir games Andy always plays well. Andy hit some big shots at critical points in the game. I'm not sure but I don't think he missed any of his free throws. His defense was solid and his rebounding is always really good.

 

The player I mentioned in the prediction thread, Vance Hall, also came through with a big game. He had 15 points, but what he brings that doesn't show up in the points column is toughness. If you knew his dad you would know that this kid has never had any choice but to be tough. He stepped up and had quite a few what I call "roothog" plays, tough rebounds, loose balls etc... He collected one really tough rebound amougnst Penny and Russell, chinned the ball, and Penny sort of got in his space. Penny was smart enough to get out of his space real quick by flopping. It's not a smart move to get in Hall's space. I love the way Vance plays because he has roothogablilty!!!!!!

I think the key to Flyers post season will be Donovan getting on a roll from behind the arc to take some of the pressure off of Meyers.

I can see Donovan getting 20 points a game in the post season if given the opportunity and making the Flyers a very tough out along with the rest of their balanced scoring.:thumb:

Roothogability? Who are you, Dick Vital? I have known Vance for a long time and know exactly what you are talking about. I was playing a pick up game with him once outside and he took a charge on the concrete! He is as tough as they come. I feel like a Vance, Andy, and Barrett are all overlooked because the scoring is so balanced as someone mentioned earlier, but that is why they have had such a great season. If one scorer on there team has an off game, they have a few different guys that can step up and have a big game. This is a very talented team. I would not want to run into Franklin County in the post season.

 

As for the game last night, it was very physical, especially near the end. The officials let the game get out of control. They were very inconsistant in the way that they called the game, and as a result, it got nasty at the end. Different crews make different calls based on judgement, but what they should always do is make the same calls all game. I saw Meyer almost get his head ripped off, no call. Later he got pushed into the scorers table just trying to run down the court, no call. I like physical play, but there is a point when you have to draw the line.

I was at this game just to see a good quality basketball game. I was there as a basketball fan. Not a fan of Franklin County or a fan of Anderson County.

 

It was an absolute farce of how the fans were treating the kids on the court.

 

I can't believe grown adults would yell and belittle tenagers that are playing the game they love on the court. It was appauling that this even happens.

 

I was sitting on the Franklin County side and heard several of their fans yelling and even cursing at times the Anderson County players. There is no place in the this sport or any sport for this to happen. I can see where Penny had enough and finally called a few out.

He reacted to a call with explicit words to which the FC crowd was yelling about. He turned around to the crowd and told them to come on the court and see what happens.

doomer thanks for the correction on the name. Whatever his name I sure like the way that young man played. He is a gamer and along with Connor, Meyers, Donovan, Hicks, and big Oakley makes for a nice FC team. Good luck to the Flyers.

 

PS I know Andy and Barrett from AAU summer ball where they played with the F Troop from Elliott and Richie Phares. Andy and Barrett are both nice players and great young men. These young men are all good friends.

Not taking up for the kid, but I can see where you're coming from with a FEW of the FC fans. During the Holmes game they did the same thing to J. Johnson while he was walking off the floor with his head buried in his jersey and tears rolling down his face. I found it very classless as well to call out a kid like that. Luckily, a certain kid's parent had the right mindset to turn around and calm them down and tell them it wasn't that serious.

Cursing? That is false sir. That's a bold accusation to make. I'm pretty sure I was sitting right behind you. There wasn't many people sitting in that section that weren't Franklin County fans. Also there was one man saying things to Penny, and I do agree with you, that is embarrassing. I actually asked him to stop a couple times and he didn't listen. At the end of the game when Penny reacted to the crowd so strongly some of the other Franklin County fans got upset. I never said a word during this, I just watched and listened.

 

That being said, I was somewhat disappointed with how Penny reacted. He is a player. All he had to do was let his game speak for himself. The bottom line is an adult should never directly address a kid on the court. This is classless, but please don't make such strong accusations. I was embarrassed sitting next to this guy, but the other parents never directly addressed Penny. Some of them might not have even heard the one man interacting with Penny with it being so loud in that gym.

It was a very wild atmosphere last night with the police escorting several people from the gym. The emotions were running high on both sides of the court and some were going way over the line thus getting escorted out. One guy up where I was sitting was even arguing with the police who were trying to be patient. I thought the guy was going to get body slammed and cuffed.

 

It's just a game folks, but it seems some fans were out for blood last night.

May cooler heads prevail in the future.

Went to the AC FC game and stood in the doorway to watch the game. FC has a great TEAM. They pass, shoot, defend, and most of all have a great ATTITUDE on the floor. This TEAM also has great leadership on the floor. AC has one of the most impressive players in the state. He #25 did seem more interested in what was going on in the FC crowd than what was going on between the lines with his team. I saw him call out a lady on the front row in a red shirt. From what I understand you would not have liked it if your 5 yr old son was in the area to hear what he said, and the lady was #25's mom. I question how far AC can go with the leadership I saw on the floor. FC has a great chance in the 11th. FC has a TEAM with leadership and class. Good luck to both AC and FC.
