Will Coach Copley be taking Sammons place in the weight lifting class any time soon? Also does anyone know who the Coach's assistants are for sure? Did Brain Meenach accept the job,and is Mullins staying? :idunno: I had heard that K.B. Johnson was going with Sammons but was not for sure about the rest of the crew.

Mullins is staying. The OL coach from Johnson Central is here and a DL coach has been approved. Also, a young coach that played for Coach Copley is coming, too.

 

The KHSAA has given Coach Copley a waiver to extend his weeks for Spring practice since today is his first day with the boys. He told me that he was having a meeting with them today and that they WERE lifting today as well. The new "regime" starts today.

Anyone know about Brian Meenach (Freshman Coach)? I hope he is staying on, he has always had the boys best interest at heart and is a great coach. (even if he is from "that" side of the county!! )

How did weight lifting go today. I heard Copley let them know right out the gates who was the boss.

I guess we will see if he is the boss or not. There was quite a few prospects that didn't show up today. I wander if it will be the same old song and dance. Dodge all the hard work and show up on game day.

GC has been really bad for that the past couple of years!!!

I agree and I hope that is not going to be the case. All that does is get the parents in an uproar and the kids a bad attitude,and not to menton it doesn't make gc get any better.

What exactly is your agenda with this statement?

Hampton and Duncan did not come down for the special meeting during 7th period, nor did they show for weightlifting. I am not surprised by either of these no-shows.

 

Coach Copley did tell the boys that none of them had a Jersey (number) and that they would have to earn it by showing up. None of them were "entitled" to anything they would have to earn their jersey number and their spot. If they are not playing another sport they are expected to lift every day after school. Official spring practice will start next Monday. They will continue lifting after Spring Practice until the end of school.

 

He has also instituted a dress code for weightlifting practice. Only Green, Gold, Black or White GC shirts may be worn. No cutoff shirts, etc. He also has incorporated quite a few other rules to instill discipline in the boys. (The quote I heard from one young man was, "He is the real deal.")

I was told that there were some Freshman and a new Junior player talking during the meeting and that he busted them out for it.

 

He is all about discipline and committment to team. This is an excellent start!!!

I am not sure how the notation above regarding Coach Mullins is related??? He was at the special meeting and Coach Copley announced to the boys that he was an assistant coach and part of the coaching team.

I talked to Brain Meenach yesterday and he said that he was indeed coaching the freshman team. He is a great guy and the boys do like him.My son referred to him as like a second dad because he always checks his report card to make sure he is doing good in school.

I hope not because it does cause alot of problems when this happens.IMO if the boys don't have a medical ,playing other sports or something like this reason then there is no excuse for not showing up.If their hearts are not in it then the TEAM does not need them!
