You were doing pretty good with your story until your last sentence. For the 5,098,540,721st time, the kids can pray in school all they want. It just can't be organized by the school.

They have a teacher as a sponsor and FCA meets weekly during school club time. Maybe this isn't your definition of school organized.

 

Semantics aside over what is isn't allowed, what has happened with our football team and student body has been very uplifting and God, IS with them.

 

They are meeting weekly on Sunday nights at students houses and have had as many as 60 boys show up on a Sunday night. The girls have had Sunday night meetings as well with 30 or so girls showing up.

 

The first time the boys met on Sunday night they had a special guest speaker, former UK Forward Bobby Perry. Bobby spoke about mission trips he had been on and that night there were 6 or 7 boys that were saved and gave their life to God. One amazing thing from that night was here was a former UK Basketball player and not one person asked him about UK and BBall, every question was about his mission trips and serving God.

North Oldham Football has changed their entire culture from losing to winning. We are 18- 6 the last two seasons after going 7-34 the first 4 seasons. The team GPA was a 3.05, so yes you can be successful on the field and the classroom. Great statement to these young men for not giving up.

Somerset High School football team has had at least 9 players saved since the beginning of the season. Some through the witnessing of fellow players and some through activities and fellowship from Fellowship of Christian Athletes / Athletes in Action. At least two players accepted Jesus Christ as their savior and gave the lives to God, in the football field-house after practices during the season. All together there have been well over 20 athletes saved this year both male and female during FCA related activities.

 

Just goes to show that the government may try to keep God out of schools but our kids still have something to say about that.

I cannot begin to share what football means to me. So many of the lessons of life can be learned in Football.

 

Life does not owe you anything. Your success is largely determined by how hard you work.

 

There is always someone faster, stronger, smarter, better hands, better feet.... Even if things are easier for you than most of your friends you still need to work hard.

 

You can be aggressive and physical but you still have to have control of your emotions.

 

Life is not fair. Officials will miss calls and crying and blaming and using that as an excuse gets you nowhere. You have to overcome curveballs in life.

 

I really could go on and on and on but won't. Football is simply the best sport on earth. I equate playing football with my experience at boot camp at Parris Island. You are never as close to people as the people you sweat, bleed, cry and laugh with. When you go through something that is difficult together you can't help but grow close.

 

I know there are other mainstream sports out there that many people enjoy and have great experiences with. Other sports that are very, very difficult. But the difference is, in the other sports there isn't the threat of someone cutting you in half while you are trying to do your job. It makes it different from the other sports.

 

I love football. I truly love it. I am 40 years old and would sign up for an adult league today if they existed. I am a much better person today for my time in football. I hope to always be involved in the sport until my dying day.

Having a teacher as a sponsor of a student-run organization is a big difference from a required daily prayer for all students, which is what most of this board would regrettably like to see instituted.

Well, then they're mistaken as to their griping about "taking prayer out of the schools," since there is no legal document saying kids can't pray in school. It just can't be school-organized/mandated.
