February 22, 200917 yr Saw where both the 7th grade finals St. Joesph--Cresent Springs vs. St. Joesph--Cold Springs @ 6:15 and the IHM--St. Mary's 8th grade contest @ 7:30 will be braodcast live via the bmustangs.com website. :thumb: Should be fun for the younger kids to share the high school spotlight for an evening!! Congrats to the finalists and best of luck to all the teams!! Last year's broadcast of the diocesan championship games were among our most popular of the season. St. Joe, Cold Springs will take on St. Joe, Crescent Springs at 6:15pm in the 7th Grade championship game, followed by St. Mary, the defending 7th Grade diocesan champs taking on newcomer Immaculate Heart of Mary out of Burlington in the 8th Grade championship game at about 7:30pm. The two teams have not played this season. February 23, 200917 yr Congratulations to Coach Doug Clark and his 7th Grade St. Joseph, Cold Spring Bluejays on winning the 7th Grade Diocesan Championship on Sunday night at Brossart H.S. 32-26 over St. Joseph, Crescent Springs. The Cavs spotted the J's a 9-0 lead out of the gate and while making several runs in the second half cutting the lead to four, never recovered. The Cavs' Sam Dressmen led all scorers with 15 points, while the J's put eight players in the scoring column, led by Nate Verst. This is Coach Clark's second 7th Grade Diocesan championship in two years. The last one was two years ago with a few players named Fardo, Kramer, Morse, and Hayden. The St. Mary Saints 8th Grade Team completed the 7th Grade and the 8th Grade Diocesan double by defeating the Immacualte Heart of Mary Saints 39-22 in the nitecap. The St. Mary Saints led coast to coast and were led by Justin Saunders with 21 points. Congratulations to Coaches Rick Williams and Dan Wagner on their first-ever diocesan crown. Twenhofel played in the 8th grade state tourney this weekend where they won their first bracket game and they only lost by 2 to a very good Mayfield team. The Birds will have to play a flawless game to beat the Breds on their home floor. Key IMO is getting to the line for freebies. The Birds are shooting over 80% from the Free Throw line in their last two games.

Twenhofel played in the 8th grade state tourney this weekend where they won their first bracket game and they only lost by 2 to a very good Mayfield team. The Birds will have to play a flawless game to beat the Breds on their home floor. Key IMO is getting to the line for freebies. Twenhofel is aggressive "Q" and with that depth, they don't mind fouling, so getting to the line shouldn't be a problem. Good luck to the 'Birds tonight. That should be a game worth watching!

The starters (except for Norton)seemed to have lost their passion, but after watching them play Mayfield this past Saturday night it looked like they were beginning to return to the team of passion and desire to win. If they bring that back with them they should not have a problem beating Highlands. Twenhofel has a good bench who also played very well this past weekend. I do not think the Breds will just lay down and give the game to the Birds. They will fight hard and keep plugging away until they come out with the win.

February 23, 200917 yr Twenhofel's first half vs Mayfield was a totally different team than they've been all year. They were out manned, out hussled, outplayed, and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Twenhofel's second half against Mayfield was the best i've seen them look all year. They showed more heart in that second half than they've shown all year. Tanner Norton and Chad Lucas played outstanding on Saturday down in Lexington.
February 23, 200917 yr You are right Coach Norton had a great weekend and Lucas had a incredible game. To bad he had to come out of the game early on Saturday after getting hit in the face. You are right again that the 2nd half was probably the best the team had played this year. If they don't bring that passion with them tonight they may lose. Lets keep our fingers crossed that they can keep it together. Nothing we would like better than to see a Twenhofel v. Summit View final.

February 24, 200917 yr Author Q. How has Highlands improved over the year, what are they doing better now. They are getting better at running their offense and taking the ball to the basket. I personally think it is their intensity. If you saw this team play in December you might have thought they took sleeping pills before the games. Just no intensity at all. BTW- their sixth man Witte is out sick tonight with Flu. This hurts as he is a big spark off the bench both defensively and with his ability to shoot. Just got a text from the game and Highlands leads Twenhofel by 2 at the half. 16-14. Birds are playing very good man-man defense.
