February 20, 200917 yr :idunno: My heart wants the Birds to actually catch fire and win their 1st round game against the 6 seed, then knock off likely Twenhofel(2 seed) on their homecourt in the 2nd round and then defeat the Beechies(1 seed) who they handled by 12 earlier in the season. Then they would reach the finals and I think with the way that SV is playing they will be there from the other bracket. If the Birds play the impressive man-man full court pressure defense they have played the last 6 games they could do it. If this doesnt happen then I see maybe Twenhofel reaching the finals against SV and the Jags coming away victors. Beechwood is a very athletic team but IMO they can be beat by shutting down Nussbaum and keeping Dillon Smith in check. Holmes is athletic but if you change your normal gameplan and actually zone them like I am sure Beechwood did (in their 2 victories) then you can beat them. They really struggle with their outside shooting and they NEVER get back on defense because they are always trying to get steals in the backcourt for easy layups. Twenhofel is the deepest team but not necessarily the hottest team. SV has very good balance but they can get out of sync with selfish play at times and if their outside shooters are not being aggressive with taking the open shots then they may not take the crown. CC Purple is not going to be a cakewalk for anyone, trust me they play some nasty man-man defense but need to execute better. My Final Four prediction is going to be Highlands vs Beechwood in the upper bracket and SV vs. Holmes in the bottom. Highlands vs. SV in the finals. Birds take the crown. :banana: Sorry Im a homer. Newport/IHM, Highlands/Blessed Sacrament, CC Purple/Turkeyfoot, Holmes/ CC Gold, Twenhofel/St. Pius, Woodland/PC Bye- Beechwood and Summit View Upper Bracket Winner of Newport/IHM faces Beechwood. February 21, 200917 yr Author In 8th Grade Tourney Action today Woodland beat Pendleton Co Newport beat IHM at the buzzer I heard. Twenhofel defeated St. Pius Highlands handled Blessed Sacrament 43-32. They got off to a cold start against the 2/3 zone BS threw at them. They converted more shots in the 2nd half and once again shot lights out from the FT line. I have to think they made 12 of 15 FT's on the game. They are shooting just crazy from the fT line in the last 2 games. Newport faces Beechwood Woodland will likely face Holmes Highlands faces Twenhofel

IMH's #25 handles the ball good and shoots a good 3-point shot. IMH also had another player I believe his number was 23 - he played a hard game and was very impressive. St Henry will be getting a good group of players out of IMH. Newport's #44 Pearson got the winning shot. Pearson has been playing some good ball the past few games and Newport's big men have been pulling down the rebounds. If Newport can jump off to a good start against Beechwood they might just pull off an upset.

February 22, 200917 yr In the 8th grade NKMSBL tourney today: The 1:00 game CC gold vs. Holmes was won by Holmes. The 2:00 game CC purple vs Turkeyfoot was won by CC Purple by 6. The game was called very tight! Barth had another solid game scoring 15+ (not exactly sure of his final point total). #14 for Turkeyfoot will be a solid contributor as a freshman along with Moo Young. Purple plays a tough Summitview team on Tuesday night.

Beechwood has a good group but I believe Newport can knock them off.
February 22, 200917 yr 25 Egbers is a good point guard - St Henry 23 Beatrice works very hard - Cov Cath to play Football I hope #23 Beatrice still plays some basketball while at CovCath he is a hard nose kid. There was another kid that played a good game too and I think he was #12 or 13 I recall him sinking ever free throw he got.

Saw where both the 7th grade finals St. Joesph--Cresent Springs vs. St. Joesph--Cold Springs @ 6:15 and the IHM--St. Mary's 8th grade contest @ 7:30 will be braodcast live via the bmustangs.com website. :thumb: Should be fun for the younger kids to share the high school spotlight for an evening!! Congrats to the finalists and best of luck to all the teams!!
