Speaking of long drives and the weather that time of year, maybe it would be safer to have 4 regionals comprised of the winners of Regions 1,2,3,& 4 then 5,6,7,& 8... then 9, 10, 11, & 12 and so one..., then the final four teams from the North/South/East/ & West play it out in a centralized location instead of all 16 teams having to all travel to Richmond in possible bad weather. Still maybe have it in Mid-Feb for the 4 regionals and centralized finals to increase chances of better weather. As it is right now some teams have to travel longs distances to 'Richmond' as some would have to travel long distances to NKU as the Professor pointed out. No matter where they'd have it a lot of teams have to travel. :idunno:

I've been at the All A Classic nearly every year since it became a statewide tournament ... this is the first year that I can remember the weather being a factor to the point that the tournament schedule had to be altered.

 

Part of the All A Classic's allure is that it has a "Sweet 16" just like the state tournament in March. There is no reason to change the format because of one bad-weather year out of 20.

Moving the All A to later in February is not feasible because then it's too close to districts.

There's no where else on the calendar for it. Early December would affect too many Holiday Tournaments.

The All A is great how it is right now, no city could do a better job then Richmond does and why fix something that's not broken.

I love having it at Richmond. It is a 20 minute drive me us, and we just like going and watching some great basketball. Also to see some teams play that we don't normally get a chance to see.

I just started this thread to see what everyone thought. I am really enjoying reading everyones opinions. I for one don't care where it is hosted as long as they keep the Sweet 16 format. This is truly a great tournament for the smaller schools in the state. It has also been a major stepping stone for some teams to bigger and better things in the postseason.

How long is the drive to Richmond? I would guess the drive to N. Ky. is only a half hour more. Turn right at Lexington, 30 minutes to Richmond. Turn left at Lexington, one hour to N. Ky.

If they move it back to NKU for ONE year, it shouldn't be a big problem.

I was just kidding, as the class A NKY and WKY winners play each other now in the state football semi's.

Richmond is a very central location that does a wonderful job of hosting the tournament and providing accomodations in the area for all of the teams, as is equipped to handle all of the fringe events that go hand in hand with the basketball tournament itself.

 

EKU has earned its nitch to be the home of the All "A" State tournament. I don't see it moving anytime soon.

Both locations are roughly 300 miles from Paducah.

 

Actually, the way to go to northern Kentucky from western Kentucky is through Louisville.

I agree with most of the folks here. Keep it in Richmond. The drive is not that bad from NKY. Not to say ANYTHING bad about the Bank of Kentucky Center. It's a great facility for basketball as we'll see in a couple of weeks with the 9th and 10th Region tournaments.

Northern Kentucky is a great area. My cousin lives in Florence and I visit several times a year. But the location would hurt the tournament imo. It would be a long, long drive for teams such as Lyon County or Jenkins.

Plus, Richmond has done a fantastic job with the tournament. I agree, they would be a hard act to follow.

 

I agree, as much as I would like to see the tournament moved to NKU, it really doesn't make sense. Richmond is a much better location for all the teams.
