I realize that you hate the Steelers, and that is your right. I appreciate the statement, I know from personal experience, it was hard to say it:thumb:.

 

It wasn't hard for me to say that at all. I hate the Steelers with a passion but Big Ben is the reason they are where they are. I remember watching him at Miami Of Ohio. I knew he would be good but not this good. He went to the perfect situation.

I think that loss is to the Bengals a few years ago....

 

I was thinking that too. I went to a game several years ago when Neil Odonnell was QB... Not Steelers, but the Bengals and it had a crazy ending to come from behind. Not sure if that was it.

I am very happy having Big Ben as the Steelers QB and I hope he adds a couple more championships to his belt in Pittsburgh.

I'll be honest on this one. I liked him in college but haven't liked him with the Steelers. I feel like he was one of the most overrated QB's in history. He was flat out bad the 1st Super Bowl and road the Bus litteraly.

I still think he has the luxery most QB's don't have in a running game and a top defense every year.

This year I honestly think he grew up a lot. He started the year much like every year trying to do too much and forcing the ball. To me now he has learned to keep the play alive but not turn the ball over as much which makes his team hard to beat becasue their defense is so good. He also doesn't have the running game he did although it's not bad. The Oline is not very good in pass pro either.

I've always felt like he was REALLY overrated but I give him props for the final drive last night. What makes him so good IMO is that he is so hard to bring down. He keeps things alive and his eyes down the field. Pitt got a lot of calls to extend drives and made a huge difference in the game. Ben also did a lot to keep drives alive. The play he scrambled left, rolled back to the right then threw back was huge.

I stand by him being overrated in the past. No doubt in my mind. I think he really grew a lot this year. I give him a lot of props. Without him and the officials I don't think the Steelers win the Super Bowl yesterday I thought he should have been co MVP.

 

The running game was sub-par at best this year, and some might call it awful. The O-line was not good as well (although it got much better the last 1/3 of the season). The defense failed for one of the few times this season, surrendering the late lead and necessitating heroics from Roethlisberger to pull out the SB win.

 

As much as Bengals fans hate to concede anything positive about the Steelers and especially Roethlisberger, to deny him credit now really makes the Who-Deys look petty and jealous. At least you and some of your brethren have finally come around … :clap:

I'm not a huge Big Ben fan, but I think he's a solid quarterback. He's still not an elite one, but he's had a great career thus far and he's a warrior.

 

He makes a lot of plays, although some of the things he does are very unorthodox and borderline stupid. Personally, I like them, although I think it's a horrible decision when he throws across his body like he does.

 

I think Big Ben is a solid QB. He is a good leader and he's in a great system. He doesn't have to put up big numbers - just manage the game. It's the perfect situation for Big Ben, and he has done an excellent job thus far.

 

I'll give him major props but I still don't think he's one of the best and still don't care for him either.

Roethlisberger is a good quarterback. His ability to perform under pressure is EXACTLY what the Steelers need- kudos to the Steelers management. The fact that they have an outstanding defense allows him some room to make mistakes and show signs of inconsistency. If he were on a team such as the Bengals, I simply don't think he would be a top 10 NFL QB. But he does very, very well in the situation that he is in. And since half of life is finding where you fit in, I consider him a top 5 QB. However, in terms of pure talent- if he were placed in a situation on a below average team- I'd put him out of the top 10.

If he has no talent (comparatively speaking), why does he win so many more games than his peers? The Steeler defense is great, but doesn't score a lot of points compared to, say, Baltimore. Somebody's gotta get 'em in the end zone, and it wasn't the running game this year.

I think he is a talented QB (I'd put him the 10-15 range in the NFL). I guess it is similar to someone coming out of college who is described as a "system" quarterback. It requires some talent but it also requires having a system that fits you very well. And believe me, I give all the credit to the Steeler's front office for putting the right people in place.

The defense is amazing and Ben is perfect for their system. Is he as good as Brady or Manning? Nope. That makes him not elite in my book. I would also take a healthy Carson Palmer (if there is such a thing anymore) over him.

I've said it before, I've like Ben since his days at Miami of Ohio. He's a winner. Don't know where he stands on the best qb list. Based on individual stats he finished 15th in my fantasy football league right behind Kyle Orton and ahead of Matt Ryan. He's not asked to do a lot in that offense but when he has to, he does.

Looking at the poll results I didn't know Pancake was a Bengal fan.

The best part of this thread is there were plenty of Steeler fans questioning him earlier this season.

That's what I was thinking during much of the Super Bowl. I wonder if Steeler fans are still frustrated with their QB...still wishing he'd adjust his style a little?

 

Ben is one of those guys who almost always rises up and makes it happen in the clutch moments regardless of how he's played prior to that point. I'll take him in Tennessee any time the Steelers want to send him packing...
