I wasn't at the game but from what I've been hearing from those who were that this was a coming out party for sophomore Kellen Smith from Scott. They say he's arguably the best point guard in all of Northern Kentucky.

 

Best point guard in NKY? Not yet, the kid is good. I would put probably Riley and Gabbard ahead of him, then him and Trammel from Dixie at about the same level. Maybe a few others could be thrown into the mix. By the time Smith is a senior, I with out a doubt see him being a stud in nky.

This score is great proof to me that there are no locks for Rupp Arena. Holmes could easily lose in the region just like any other team :thumb:

Not sure if he's better than Riley but he is definetly tough and will HANDS DOWN be the best true pg next year. He played extremely well for Scott and was the best player on the floor for them.

All of the fouls called on Pittman were VERY questionable though and 3 should have been offensive fouls. On two of them he got absolutely bowled over while standing still to take a charge and on the other Nikola threw an elbow at his chest, knocking him on the ground, but the foul was called on Pittman? When Pittman fouled out in OT the refs had came over and said something to both him and O'Conner about talking back and forth and not even 5 seconds later Pittman went up for a rebound and got the stick back but they call a foul on him? :confused:

 

Anyone who has seen Riley knows he NEVER gets in foul trouble which plays even more in to the fact that the refs were absolutely terrible.

 

You just had to be there to understand where myself and a few others are coming from. I'm sure the Scott fans would agree as well with the calls that went against their team.

It's just a shame that aren't more people willing to get into referreing that have played the game and know what goes on during the heat of the battle. Most of the guys that get certified today clearly never played the game and do it as a part-time job to make a little extra cash. You used to have a solid bunch of veterans and new guys had to earn varsity games by doing the lower levels. I have seen refs today who haven't been around but a few years doing varsity action.

First off, they shouldn't have even got the final shot. Rico's dunk off the inbounds play came with 0.6 left on the clock. Refs then blew their whistles and went and put 2.5 back on the clock. Then on the missed shot the refs waited til the ball hit the ground to blow the whistle..very late call.

I find it funny though that a team gives Holmes a good game and all of a sudden they aren't as good as advertised.

 

Anyone who was actually at the game today and not just responding to the score will tell you Scott played one hell of a game and would have beaten ANYONE in nky today with the way they played.

 

Let's not leave out the FACTS that Holmes played OT and 2 full quarters without Pittman due to foul trouble and Riley was on the bench as well for well over a full quarter in foul trouble.

 

I guarantee you take away two of the three best players from ANY team in nky for that long and play Scott AT Scott in a packed gym and Scott wins by 10+.

 

 

 

 

ER...I'm not sure if it's the lack of BB knowledge, or the fact that some just want to root against Holmes, or a como of both. There is so much more that goes into a good basketball game, or any sport for that matter. Just because a Team seems unbeatable on some nights, doesn't mean your going to blow out Teams every night, especially here in N.Ky. Holmes was pushed to the limit today on sooo many fronts and still responded with a win.

 

As for Scott, I hope you guys can build off this game and represent the 10th. I don't believe there's anyone who can tell me that Brad Carr isn't one of the top 2 Coaches in the region, if not the best. Brad also went to and played for Holmes in the late 80's, you don't think those kids turned it up a notch today for Coach? Hopefully Scott will play the rest of their games with such grit and make it to Rupp.

What I saw with Holmes tonight is a lot of careless passes and silly turnovers... Scott is good but no way should they have been in this game... Holmes had chances to blow it open, but Scott didn't go away. Pittman and Riley being in foul trouble didn't help either.

Both defenders that he shot over stood there with their arms straight up and made no attempy to block the shot and made no contact...it was clearly not a foul. There will be highlights from the game tonight on channel 12 news sports.

I have seen heavy favorites walk into district or regional play with their we are mighty attitude and get slaughtered by teams that are ready for tournament play. There are never any givens in sports - especially when kids are involved.:sssh:
