January 26, 200917 yr No chance St. Louis has a better bullpen and starting rotation than the Reds. They picked up a couple lefties and Boggs has been a very good AAA closer. If he can close they have a very good bullpen. The Reds are special in the bullpen. Cards rotation.. Carpenter Wainwright Lohse Wellmeyer Pineiro Volquez is good besides that who is another good pitcher for the Reds? Harrang? Arroyo?

Harang/Arroyo is just as good as any of the Card pitchers at this point in their careers.

I thought I read somwhere that the Cardinals were going to use Carpenter as a closer. I'll be shocked if Lohse comes anywhere close to the year he had last year.

January 26, 200917 yr I look for Aaron Harang to bounce back & have a huge year this year. At least I hope.
January 26, 200917 yr You can pencil in Carpenter for about 5 starts. Reds pitching is better than the Cards.
January 26, 200917 yr Well if he bounces back he is good but nothing really special. His best ERA is 3.73... The Cards had the NL's 7th best ERA without Carp and Wainwright and the Reds were 13th. As for Carpenter if he doesn't play then they will go get someone. Bottom line is the Cards will be better than the Reds this year like always..

January 26, 200917 yr Well if he bounces back he is good but nothing really special. His best ERA is 3.73...If Harang signed with the Cardinals today, he would be their #1 or #2 starter. As for the ERA ... pitching half of your games in GABP can be awfully damaging to your ERA. The Cards had the NL's 7th best ERA without Carp and Wainwright and the Reds were 13th. As for Carpenter if he doesn't play then they will go get someone.Wainwright made 20 starts ... it isn't like he missed nearly the entire season like Carpenter did. Will the Cardinals go get someone else? Most Cardinal fans I know gripe at management's lack of moves.
January 26, 200917 yr Will the Cardinals go get someone else? Most Cardinal fans I know gripe at management's lack of moves. My question isn't whether or not they'll go get someone else. It's who would they "go get"? And who would they give up?
January 26, 200917 yr My question isn't whether or not they'll go get someone else. It's who would they "go get"? And who would they give up? Since the ill-advised Mulder-Haren deal, their farm system hasn't been productive enough to enable the Cardinals to get an impact player in a trade. The farm system is starting to bear a little fruit, but will the Cardinals let it grow at home or send it somewhere else?

The farm system is starting to bear a little fruit, but will the Cardinals let it grow at home or send it somewhere else? I had read a while back that the Cards wouldn't be opposed to moving Ryan Ludwick or Rick Ankiel. I find that hard to believe, but I seem to remember reading that.
January 27, 200917 yr Gonzalez's RF and Fielding % were below the league average in 2007. With a full season off and leg problems what makes you think they'll improve? Thought you may find this article interesting. Talks about Gonzalez's range factor as well as some other stat I've never heard of. http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090126&content_id=3773976&vkey=news_cin&fext=.jsp&c_id=cin

Most Cardinal fans I know gripe at management's lack of moves. With Carp and Wainwright he would not be the 1 or 2. He would be the 5th best if Lohse and Wellmeyer pitch well and Harang is anything like last year... As for the home vs away thing in Harangs best year which was 2007 his road era was 4.06. Career his era away is 4.31.. The Cards can give away Ludwick or Ankiel and who would they get? There is always Jake Peavy and the Cards and Padres have made a couple deals in the past year so I could see a trade there if the Cards really needed to.
January 27, 200917 yr That tells me everything I need to know... You really think Aaron Harang is an ACE? If that is the case then that tells me everything I need to know.
