From John Clay's article in the Herald Leader today:

Indiana has dropped the price of balcony tickets to $5 in hopes the move will draw fans to see the hapless Hoosiers.

This is a good move by IU. You need to keep interest in the team up, and no one is going to want to drop large amounts of money to watch a terrible team play. UC should do the same thing for the remainder of this year.

Thats as cheap as it is to get into most high school basketball games. IMO I think youll see more fans who usually couldnt afford it or even been to a game go but overall with this team this year I dont see how much it will improve their attendance overall.

I actually think it's a joke that IU fans won't go watch a team that is playing it's rump off, with a legit coach, simply because they don't feel they can win.....talk about fairweather.

I'll tell you what, 3 years from not when IU has a credible team, I'm gonna be right there saying I supported them the whole time and I knew they were headed in the right direction. Maybe, at that time, I'll gain a litte C word with you guys, "CREDIBILITY."

It's all about money, guys. IU would much rather get $5 per seat than $0 per seat. Every little bit helps when you're paying big contracts.

Conversation with a stud high school prospect by a school that is competing with IU for this kid's services:

"Sure you can go to IU and play right away most likely since they are going to struggle for a while. Of course, you might be playing in front of a half-full gym unless they start giving tickets away again just to get people in the door. Doesn't exactly sound like a great environment, does it? Heck, you might even get your games on the Big 10 Network and be seen by 14 houses in Coshocton,OH. Feel the excitement!!!!!!!!!!!"

The few thousand dollars they generate from this are simply not worth the hit on reputation and credibility.
