I'm not touting the NRA line, and I'm not for confiscating guns, either. I'm sort of in the middle, which is true of a lot of issues. To you guys on the far right, just about every position I take is far to the left.

Frankly, I think there are fewer pro-gun and anti-gun people out there combined than apathetic-gun people.

 

It just seems that on this issue, there's a mentality of "you're either for us, or against us". Frankly, I'm for gun control, not anti-gun...and in the largest sense of things, I'm apathetic about gun ownership. I don't care two hoots if you own one. I don't want to own one, personally. It's not really an issue that affects me, despite the best efforts of the NRA to convince me that all my constitutional rights will be rescinded if it's any harder for someone to get a gun.

On this issue, one needs to adopt an "you're either for us or against us" mentality if one wants to continue to be a gun owner. Too many people want guns banned because they're afraid of them, mostly because of their ignorance of guns. I know you have more knowledge than that, but you admitted apathy of the issue, that is what worries a lot of us. Too many Americans are apathetic about such issues and if the trend continues, it's going to be a grim future for gun owners. Honestly Rockmom, these bills do nothing to help anyone except criminals. Just remember, drugs are illegal and the illegal drug problem is uncontrollable. Anyone can score pretty much any drug they desire very easily, the same is true about guns. You can obtain them illegally very easily, that's why these gun control laws aren't really about keeping anyone safe, it's about control of law abiding citizens only.

However they are taking steps in preperation to do just that , in the end. I intend to cross that bridge when we get to it, because I don't think we will get much help from anyone when they do try to take them. Unfortunately RTS has told you nothing but the truth, you just choose to not believe it.

I fail to see how the current system to legally having a gun deters criminals. I fail to see why better systems to keep guns out of the wrong hands is a bad thing.

 

As I said before, I don't care if people have guns. But, I don't understand the mentality that having a gun does anything to affect criminal access or crimes committed.

 

I don't think that there's anything to be gained by having a gun, no matter what systems, or if no systems, are in place. But, it is a choice, and if that's your choice have at it.

 

I don't find any of my rights threatend either way, except my intrinsic right to safety from people misusing their weapons. But, that's not a constitutional right, so I guess that's not guaranteed, and I'll live with that. :lol:

 

Honestly, it's not that big of deal to me. It's one of those things where I support a position on an issue that really doesn't affect me. Maybe I'm able to take the position that I do because it DOESN'T affect me. I'm looking at it from the outside.

Saying that gun control laws will lead to gun confiscation is a little like saying speed limits will lead to the outlawing of automobiles.

 

Yea that's just about awful, surely we can have a better analogy that that. Or maybe it's because this new law is really that dumb, which is why no one can come up with good comparison ofr it.
