I think if you watched the game between Bama and Utah you would say yes. Utah was pretty much dominant on both sides of the ball. Very impressed by Utah's defense. Utah's QB also looked like a Heisman winner.

They just might, they go unbeaten, beat Bama, Utah also beat the team that beat USC (that alot are saying is the best in the country).

We may be seeing another "Auburn" type scenerio (the year that imo Auburn was screwed out of a title). Bottom line is the winner of the Oklahoma/Fla is the national champion. Utah probably should be at #2 in the final BCS poll. I don't think that the AP will split it but they might.

As for my vote here, I don't really know how to vote. With the way the system is set up they don't...not in the BCS title game. Looking at it in other ways they do so here we go, just another college football season.

What the heck!! I will throw a wrench in it just for the heck of it... I vote yes.

I would think they may get some #1 votes. They may not be the best, but it would be nice, AND DESERVED if they got some votes.

If Florida was to lose to Oklahoma I would think that they'd have a good argument.

Just one thing about the "they beat the team that beat USC" argument, that is, USC crushed the team "that beat the team that beat USC," so it doesn't carry as much weight.

Utah played a fantastic game and are unblemished. They have earned the right to claim they are the best team in the nation. As Pete Carroll has said for many years, though, we will never know until there is a playoff.

No.... they didn't beat the Gators or Sooners in the BCS title game. They played Alabama who showed they didn't deserve the title game proved that last night.

BCS title game, doesn't include Utah. Are they good, yes but current format didn't select them. The undefeated record, doesn't automatically make them the National Champion.

I hope the AP votes them number one. They should have been in the game all along. The BCS is a total joke.

Utah proved that they are a top notch program. Agree with Pete Carroll until there is a playoff noone will know for sure. Myself think USC and Florida are two best teams. Just my opinion.

The only thing that's sad about it all is that we'll never know. I'd love to see the Utes play Florida following the "National Championship game", but we'll never know.

Utah is very good and has some very impressive wins. They have wins over TCU, Oregon, Oregon St., BYU and Alabama. If I were a voter, I would have to put them #1.

Playoff format is needed, but until the $$$ signs by the College Presidents are secondary, not sure it will happen in the next 10-15 years.

Regardless of record, how many on here think Utah is the best team in the country?

The question is nebulous at best and irrelevant. Best team in the country when? Over the whole season? In a snapshot right now? Best by any objective or subjective standard? What? The 2007-08 Giants were not the "best" team in the NFL but won the Super Bowl. Therefore, they were the best by the only standard that matters. The question posed by the thread was does Utah deserve a slice of the title. I say they "deserve" it. Their wins list is is impressive. It is as impressive as Florida's or Oklahoma's. They certainly "deserve," at minimum, a shot at beating all comers.

If they were to play today, I think Utah would beat Texas, probably beat Oklahoma, matchup well with Florida but probably lose, and lose to USC. That's just me.
