OldMan, what bowl did we "deserve" to go to? We won the West and the way the BCS is set up the loser of the SEC game played in the Sugar Bowl.

 

We just got beat by a better team, doesn't mean anything else. But your team won its bowl game so.....

The question is nebulous at best and irrelevant. Best team in the country when? Over the whole season? In a snapshot right now? Best by any objective or subjective standard? What? The 2007-08 Giants were not the "best" team in the NFL but won the Super Bowl. Therefore, they were the best by the only standard that matters. The question posed by the thread was does Utah deserve a slice of the title. I say they "deserve" it. Their wins list is is impressive. It is as impressive as Florida's or Oklahoma's. They certainly "deserve," at minimum, a shot at beating all comers.

 

If they were to play today, I think Utah would beat Texas, probably beat Oklahoma, matchup well with Florida but probably lose, and lose to USC. That's just me.

Best team in the country right now. You and many others say they deserve a piece of the pie. For that to be true then you have to think they are the best team in the country. If you don't think they are the best in the country, and obviously you don't since you said Florida and USC would beat them, then why do they deserve anything beyond their Sugar Bowl trophy?

Yes but they won't.

I voted no for the fact yes they finished undefeated and beat an iffy Bama team, but it shows why their needs to be a playoff system and honestly I know it will never happen but between Utah finishing undefeated, USC looking so impressive in their blowout over Penn State and whoever wins the national championship game there should be a 3 way split between Utah, USC, and either UF or OKLA IMO for the national championship.

 

I agree USC is very good team. I think thet are second best team behind Florida. Beating Penn State out of the weak Big Ten does not impress me that much. Look at Big Ten record against top notch teams in recent years is what I base my opinion on.

And none of those conferences have anyone in the discussion for National Champ.

Because nobody in those conferences are undefeated or that good for that matter. If Utah would have been in one of those conferences they would still be undefeated and would be playing in the National Championship game based on those conferences being in the BCS. Utah played a very competitive schedule and did enought to merit getting into the National Championship game.

Soon as I saw the final in this game I said that this will be the last year for current format. If Texas has a good showing then it make even more of a case to get rid of this crap system

Whether people like it or not this system isn't going any where. At best we may see a +1 game.

This system is in place until at least 2014 due to contracts with ESPN. ESPN controls it all now and they'll decide if there is a 1+ or not, too.

I predict we see a change sooner than 2014. I know things are in order but when you have some of the top coaches in America up in your face then eventually they will get there way
