January 2, 200917 yr BK can coach my favorite team any day of the week... Why focus on the fact that the QB he started threw 4 INT's? You should be focusing on the fact that the guy just took a team picked to finish no higher than 3rd in their conference to a BCS game. You don't win national and conference titles by not being able to evaluate talent. Maybe Grutza didn't prove himself after returning from injury. Good theory though, that he'd rather lose than play Grutza... Don't know him personally, but I doubt that's true when the guy's not happy after they win...
January 2, 200917 yr So most of you guys are saying you start Grutza over Pike in the Orange Bowl because of the Hawaii game? A game that meant nothing other than getting an 11th win. I'm pretty sure Pike led the team to the Big East title and the Orange Bowl. VT would have won no matter which QB started for UC last night. Tech is top notch program. Only 3 teams have won 10 games or more every year since '04. They needed the win to get to 10 they weren't going to lose.
January 2, 200917 yr I think some may be way off base on this issue. BK knows what he's doing and stuck with Pike for a reason. Honestly, 4 int's or not, he gave UC their best chance at winning. Grutza doesn't have the same presence in the pocket. I was surprised he didn't go with Grutza after the third INT, but if you think about it, Pike had been driving UC down the field the whole night but made mistakes in the red zone. IMO that doesn't warrant for a change in the QB position in a big game. Just a few bad breaks for the Cats. I find it comical though that some are more worried about a favorite player playing than what's best for the team. BK is a great coach and honestly, I'm sure he knows a thing or two more than us casual fans.
January 2, 200917 yr Some talk that the Hawaii game wasnt a big deal, when in fact most on here and most analyst said that would have been a huge loss and looked bad for Cincy heading into the Orange Bowl and they wouldnt have deserved to be there. 3 qb's lead Cincy to the big east tittle, to say Pike did is a joke. Yes he contributed and stepped up but he didnt play every single game this year and wouldnt have played at all if Grutza doest go down against OKLA. And to say Grutza didnt prove his self when coming back from injury then how do you justify him coming in not even close to 100% healthy against L-ville and leading them 70 yards down the field to the clinching touchdown? I guess that win wouldnt have meant much either would it? Grutza proved his self, proved he should have had the nod over Pike, espically after 4 ints. Although Pike did drive them down the field you cant have any Qb on team have the mistakes he did in the redzone, that will cost your team a W no matter who you play for. As far as favorite player compared to for the best of the team, Grutza is far from my favorite player, but if you want to talk about best for the team, Tony Pike sure wasnt the best man for the team in a big time bowl now was he

January 2, 200917 yr Gutsy there by Grutza, but let's be real. That was almost all John Goebel. Pretty sure last night was Tubby's fault anyway... I was simply stating that even when called on injured he went in and helped this team win, not saying he was the reason they won that game, although he did have a few nice scrambles when in trouble on a bum leg. And whats with the Tubby thing? You feel the need to bring him up in a Cincy/Grutza thread or no ones mentioned how he ruins everything lately?

Dustin is a great guy, and a team leader but he's not a better option than Pike. It's easy in hindsight to say put him out there, but they wanted to move the ball down the field vertically and if it was bad for Pike it would have been worse for Grutza...
