2009 Harlan County

Featured Replies

How many of the boys are competing in the weight lifting competition?

Not sure but teams like Knox Central, Bell County, North Laurel, Muhlenberg North, Pineville, Whitley County, Leslie County, Lynn Camp.

I'd say around 25 lifters or so will be going from Harlan County, they are divided into weight groups.

How are these weight lifting competitions set up? I know they have different weight classes, so do they start lifting a certain weight in each weight class on each event and go up until somebody gets more than everbody else? I know - bunch a women, bunch a questions, lol. I've never been to a weight lifting comp, so I'm curious. Bear with me 3 wishes, lol.

Harlan County got 2nd place overall, a lot of boys finished 1 or 2 in their class. There were 8 or 10 weight classes I think.

What did the top three end up looking like? besides HC getting #2?

Team ranking went:

Whitley County 91

Harlan County 79

Bell County 29

North Laurel 28

I cannot remember 5th place.

Harlan County's Cody Taylor got the overall pound for pound award in the 125-165 weight class.

This was the first weight lifting competiton that I have been to and to be honest I kind of dreaded a long boring day. It was very very exciting! I was so proud of the Harlan County boys, but all the kids there were very impressive. There was a lot of hard work and preparation by all those boys to be able to do what was done today. We have some very strong and athletic young men here in Eastern Kentucky.

I was also impressed with how well organized and smoothly that Lynn Camp's staff ran the event. The boys all seemed to enjoy it and was a nice little fundraiser for Lynn Camp.:thumb:

Bell County 29

:scared:

Glad our Harlan County boys represented themselves welll!!!! Weight training is a big part of Coach Larkey's guide to winning!

Leslie County was the 5th place finisher.

Lynn Camp and KC tied for 6th with 15.

Black Bear Den Mother, were you there yesterday?

I was there, 3wishes and Mama Bear were, too.

I was the guy handing out the trophies and t-shirts to the kids that won and placed.

Thanks to all who participated, coached, judged, spectated or helped out in any way at all.

Thanks, especially, to all the kids. You every one represented your schools well. Not one issue, not one problem or not one cross word came out of these participants lips yesterday. To those parents that are raising these young men, congratulations on a job well done and keep up the good work. You should be proud of these guys and how they handle themselves.:thumb:

Yes I was there and so was my hubby, sporting my son's name and number, but I didn't stay for the trophy/t-shirt presentation...had a prior family engagement I had to get to. I thoroughly enjoyed the competition. Like Mama Bear said, I figured it would probably be pretty boring, but it wasn't...and I was very glad I went. I look forward to it again next year! I want to congratulate all the boys who participated from every school and to say they should really be proud of themselves for what they have accomplished with their weight training.

Cody will be a beast...

Who were the guys who finished 1st and 2nd in their class?

I think I also read where an HC 8th grader had a combined lift of 950lbs. Talk about getting it done early!:notworthy:

Moma Bear I dont want to hear any more about those high grocery bills:thumb:

Does anyone have a summer schedule for HC
