Thanks Isaac, it has and is a very rewarding situation when you see young kids making the kind of progress that these guys have made over the past few years, and to be part of that has been special. Most of the praise must go to Tony, I have been around for quite a while and I have never been more impressed with a coach and how he conducts the entire program than his way, which is some what different than some people may think that a football team is prepared. From a parential standpoint I could not be more confident that my son will be a better football player in High school from being in Tony's charge, but even better, if he listens and takes hold of the teachings that have been offered to him, he will be a much better man for it. As a father what more could you want your son to learn?

As for the Avatar, I always enjoyed Barkley's brutal honesty, but his latest misstep forced a change. As a lifelong Steelers fan, Harrison was an obvious choice, although your avatar is now much better too and gives me some other ideas. I will say this, if I ever find a picture of HDE, watch out!

A very bright and talented young man, but unlikely that he will be starting. I think he will get a lot of experience as a freshman and start as a soph. HS football is much better, but I'm gonna watch the SB now. :popcorn: Go Steelers!

Talent @ Harlan and other small schools goes in cycles. You have a good class and then it may skip a class or two. Harlan should have the kids to win the district next year, with Hazard being hit hard with graduation. I would like to see the Carr kid @ QB and let Pennington go back to FB. It will not matter who is @ QB if they can not find a weapon @ WR like Hensley was the past two years. Look for Coach Donahue to run the ball early and often again next season.

Coach D has always been run first offense, but with Pennington and Link, it is a good 1-2 punch, I think that they may have a wild card to play in Ben Cornett he may well switch to an H-back next year and get some well earned carries. He played in that postition last year at Perry Co and had a monster game until he got an ankle turned around backwards. He runs very hard and has deceptive speed, so he could be the extra kick that this offense needs.

As far as workouts go they are having 25-30 working out at the high school level, you probably have 10-15 playing basketball at the middle and high school. So there is a shot a getting over the magic 40 number, and fielding a JV team, as stated before this is one hurdle that must be crossed.

The good news if that with the linemen returning and the backs that could be assembled, the QB, whomever it turns out to be, should not have to carry the team. The better news is that it sounds like this year's numbers will at least keep the QB from having to also be the middle linebacker and the long snapper.

I agree YC, finally some good numbers to work with. Depth has been a major problem for a couple of years. Coach D & team have played two years now with a lot of guts and not much reward. I admire each one of those guys that stuck it out and gave 100% for the past few years including the ones that have graduated. There will be a lot of options for them this year. I think as the season progresses and they figure out positions, specifically the offensive backfield, they will have a good year......Bayshore probably has the backfield figured out. I expect Carr to start at QB and Saragas getting many reps.

 

Defense should involve the same front and linebacking corps. Corners should be smarter and tougher. We'll miss Hensley from the safety position.

I dont know about 3 jobs but I do know that he seriously considered and turned down both the Hazard and Perry Central jobs over the years. JB's wife has a good job at the HARH and it would take something special for him to leave! I'm sure there may have been other offerd but these are the 3 that I remember. By the way, this was a few years back!:thumb:

Along this same time frame Whitesburg was in the mix also. It is my understanding that he interviewed there but I am not positive that the job was offered.

Coach D's children are #1 to him, as they should be. I don't think he would consider leaving until his youngest child graduates HHS. After that, it may be possible that he would leave....... Weightlifting and spring practice are going very well. They picked up an extra player or two that could really help out. Should be a fun season!

I see tremendous improvement for the team this year. The running game seems to be alive with the Link and Pennington combo, the question is about the quarterback situation, and whether or not the QB has some potential targets to take some of the focus off of the running game.
