Why Two is NOT Enough (the saga of UK Basketball)

:thumb: I say make someone besides Meeks or Patterson beat you. If they do, then so be it.

Please explain how you're going to do that?

A little something called defense. Once UK starts playing better teams Meeks is going to have to work a lot harder than he currently is to get open shots simply because right now he is a better athlete than the player guarding him.

So who's not getting enough minutes?

And if we need 3 options, won't the third option need to be able to score with PP and Meeks in the game?

Galloway should play more. UK's plays much better offensively when he is in the game with the regulars. I'm sure there is a reason that his minutes are so unpredictable, just don't know what it is.

Harrelson appears to be a good option as the third scoring threat, don't see Stewart being a part of the rotation until his basketball IQ improves.

You can bet that Rick Pitino will do just that, which is more the reason why the Cats need a 3rd player and even a 4th to step up and score, just to take some pressure off of Meeks and Patterson.

A couple of players other than Meeks and Patterson will have to have very good games for UK to beat UL. Pitino will have a good defensive game plan for those two.

Please explain how you're going to do that?

Guard them... Sure Meeks has been playing great this year, but he hasn't played anybody that has suffocated him with defense the entire game. He's a great shooter, but hasn't proven to be a guy that will knock down shots with a hand in his face. As for Patterson, you double him every time he gets the ball. This will call for good rotation on defense, but if executed, could be very effective in limiting his production.

I do not think it is that difficult. Deny Meeks the ball and your chances increase exponentially. UK has enough trouble feeding the ball to the post, to Patterson, as it is with whomever else is on the court.

I agree that Galloway and Harrelson should play more.

Would everyone agree that he is trying to develop Sloane? Also, AJ has played more the last 2 games than any other point in his career.

I agree and in a weird sort of way, I think he is trying to develop Galloway right now, as well.

Guys, if it's that easy, then why hasn't anyone done it yet?? Defense is the ONE thing that ANYBODY can play. It's all about effort and you dont have to play for a big time school to have effort and play defense.

I think he is moreso rewarding him for his efforts in practice and trying to motivate the other guys. Then again, Landon may be the best they have.

I love when fans start questioning who a coach is and isn't playing. How many people on here are at every practice? Also, how many on here would not be ready to drag BG through the streets of Lexington behind their car if UK would have lost to 3-4 of these tune up games? From what I have seen when Meeks and Patterson aren't in the game this team struggles to score. If the UK fans weren't babies and could stand to lose a few games without loosing their minds BG maybe would have the chance to get the bench better.

Normally I would totally agree. Fans griping about playing time don't see practice and see who earn PT. BUT in this case, it would be hard to make an arguement that SOMEBODY doesn't deserve more minutes. As to who that is, I would suggest Galloway and Harrleson. If they don't then Gillispie severly missed on them. You don't bring in JUCO's to sit the bench.

I would also agree that SEC teams (however bad) will guard UK better. and the Cats will definately see teams in the NCAA Tourney that will guard them better than the pitful assembledge of teams that they have laid waste to.

He may indeed be trying to develop Sloan. He has seen increased minutes. I really don't care who it is. I just don't think you can be successful being the Patrick and Jodie show.

Here's a question, when was the last time an 11-3 UK team received ZERO votes for the top 25? The reason? It's because UK has beaten teams that awful. The teams they've played that were good like Miami and North Carolina did a much better job on our big two. We'll see more of that as the year goes on.

7 players are averaging 20 minutes or more. So there's two bench players playing at least half the game.

Harrellson is averaging over 13. And he's only a soph. He has two more years after this one.
