I agree naming a entire unit is silly. Whitley Co. had a great year, earned tons of respect, but just b/c WYMT did a story on them does not mean they have the best OL in the mtns. I know it sounds like a "homer" comment but how does Bell Co's OL not get mentioned?

 

A little off subject but I think it is a very sad commentary when Bell has got more coverage after the State Championship from Knoxville TV stations from a different state and farther distance than what WYMT has done.

Lineman most certainly deserve recognition. However, to pick a 1st through 3rd team is almost impossible.

Just curious though, can any of you give me the top 15 O-linemen from Pulaski County to Lawrence County??? That's a 24 to 27 county radius covering over 40 teams.

Week after week, I watch Sports OT and see Bell County Highlights, weekly soundbites, and other stories. The game was televised on WYMT... not to mention an entire Saturday of cut-ins dedicated to the State Title game.

 

Maybe when it comes down to it, you guys don't watch as much as you think.

WYMT does a great job. You are right. The kids see it. The adults are the ones that complain. In fact, without WYMT mountain teams would not get any coverage. Thanks Brian and Jeff!

Jeff, Brian, ad Derek all do a tremendous job, and they should be thanked by all of us.

Fullcount, no one is question that WYMT does a good job of covering the teams in Eastern Kentucky, but to not name the linemen by name is just wrong. If they want to name a team that has the best line, that is fine, name those players, by name, that are on that team's line. Don't those players deserve to have their names printed as well.

 

As for it being difficult to name an "All-Area" line for 27 counties. BGP named an All-State Line, that is 120 counties. So, it is not is not impossible. In fact, it is no harder then naming an All-Area RB, WR, or QB. It seems that that was not to hard for them to do.

 

I don't have a dog in the fight, except for being a football fan, and a big proponent of OL/DL players.

Is it determined by the teams that they play and the players that they are matched up against???

 

Is it determined by college scholarships?? "Hey, this kid signed with UK, so let's put him on the All-Whatever team"".

 

Or, do some lineman benefit from their the other linemen on the team? To single out 15 linemen out of at least 150 might not turn in the best results.

But, like I said, if they want to say, for example, Belfry had the best OL in the region. That is fine, but why not say, The best OL, is Belfry, and then name the five or six player that make up that line? What would that hurt? Name the players, they deserve it. I bet there would be complaints if they named the best backfield without naming the players. I wouldn't blame those people for being upset. If you are going to name an All Star team then name all the positions. Could you imagine an All Star Basketball team that named the best guards by name and said the best back court is "So and So School", but didn't name the forwards?

It would be hard to do offensively because there are no stats other than what the RB's get. Much easier defensively. I agree that WYMT does a very good job covering Mountain teams. Ram, I also love the trench warriors...being an old blocking TE myself. I've always enjoyed the block that created the run better than the run itself.

I'm with you, I always watch the linemen, and say to friends did you see that block, and say no I was watching the RB. Boy, some people are missing some good football by not watching the blocks that created those long runs.

 

I will leave the subject alone. I just like to see the good players recognized.

Ask the coaches who were the best lineman they faced and who were the best on their team, then make a determination from that info.

I would say that you might be right southeast bell.

I have to agree with Campbell being left off the team. Heck he was a great punter and helped Corbin out a lot with his foot alone. Someone posted that he only had 777 yards on 81 carries, but if I am doing my math right that averages out to 9.5 yards a carry I'll take that any day of the week. I'm not knocking what Coach Hilton did at Bell and he is a great coach, but I would have like to see two coaches winning the Coach of the Year in that Class with Coach Wayne Mills from Knox Co. in there also. He has done a lot with that program and look for better years to come. And how abotu the "Big Guys" no love for the men in the middle. Without those guys you wouldn't have all those states and stuff for the RB's, QB's, etc.

Wow! Who votes on these things. To miss one of the best player in the state , unacceptable. He would stack him up against anyone in the state. Michael if your out there, you know in your heart where you stand. The ones you played against gave you your respect. Keep your head up kid!!!!!!!!

 

I dont know how they missed any player with all those names on that list. I'm talking about teams complete roster's.
