Campbell is a good player but only 81 carries hurt his chances. Only 777 yards for the season, when 1000 yards is the very least a back needs to have for consideration in most peoples minds. It is unfortunate but you could not put Campbell on with that few yards. Being on a balanced team obviously hurt him. He has nice stats defensively also but once again not mind boggling. There were several other LBs with equal or better stats on teams that were just as dominate. Actually on the defensive side he may have been a victim of his own success, as teams ran away from him or double teamed him.

 

WYMT does great job covering Mountain teams but they are limited and who knows who did the nominations or selections, over all I thought the teams were about right, nobody is perfect though.

 

Playing in the Border Bowl is certianly a nice honor and in the long run may help him more in securing a chance to play at the next level.

You hit the nail on the head, Michael and company did do just what the coaches ask of them and only that, No #'s No indviduals, no I, just Team. Should that affect acknowledgement, I think we need a better way!!!

If it's all about #'s Lets' talk 13-1, Anyone in the Mountains have those #'s , besides the State Champs. Don't think so. Should actually be 3-4 on the list somewhere, but thanks for the kind words they'll appreciate it. As i am a mountian teams fan, I love them all to win, I'm sure Corbin's players as well as Knox Centrals understand the concept of Team. Again (I) takes you nowhere most of the time. Why would you give the skill positions recognition by name and leave out the linemen? The accomplishments of the skill players are made possible by linemen on the offsesive side. The defensive team also needs to be listed by position. JMO

I agree, it is a slap in the face of the offensive and defensive linemen, in my opinion. They normally get very little press to begin with, and then to not even list their names is wrong. If they want to pick a team as the best linemen, that is fine, but list the linemen's name.

I would say that part of the reason they do by unit and not individual positions is that it is somewhat subjective, and there are not many stats (or accurate stats) to go by. But as a unit you can see what they do. I would not call it a slap in the face, but it does maybe keep an indivudual on a team from being recognized who otherwise would not, on the other hand, it is a team and that unit has to work together or nobody will have success. Ask any good running back and he will give the love to his line, not individually but as a group.

 

Most offensive linemen take pride in being nameless and faceless and being the ones who carry the load and clear the way, working shoulder to shoulder with their teammates, sacrificing themselves so the team can win, so what better way to recognize the group than as a unit. More than any other group the linemen have to work together, and have faith in the guy next to them.

Thomas, while I understand what you are saying, I have to disagree. I think you can pick individual players for list such as this. I agree that football is a team sport and I am not a big proponent of singling people out, but post season awards and recognition such as this should name the outstanding players. And to name players by name for every position except the linemen is just not right in my opinion. If for no other reason then name recognition for possible college recruitment, the players should be named. If they want to say that Belfry's line is the best, that is OK, but name the players that made up the best line in the area.

 

While we are on the subject, I also hate the phrase, "Skill player". A skill is something that is learned, talent is something that you have without having to learn it. So, I often refer to the Linemen as "Skill players" and the backs and receivers as "Talent players". It gets some weird looks from people, but that is the way I see it.

 

I played about ever position on the field at one time or another, and I have more respect for the linemen then any other position.

Personally, I don't see doing it by unit. The best unit does not necesarily contain the best pleyers by position. They name all of the "talent" kids by name...regardless of school, it's time WYMT get on the ball and get these line players some recognition.

 

They do a unbelievable awsome job all through the year covering mountain sports, then put out a letdown like this. Get it right or don't do guys....You cover every position but the line.:madman:

I can't hold it in....... My son is a lineman, and probably out of position for his size (6' 215lbs). But I have watched this kid open enormous holes and drive people 10 -20 yards off the line of scrimmage this past year. Often outsized by 50 even 100 pounds. Truly remarkable. I don't expect coverage nor does he. But these teams with good rushing numbers got them from the line opening holes. I believe games are won and lost on the line of scrimmage. The guys in the trenches deserve some individual recognition. :ylsuper:

I don't disagree with individual positions, I agree in fact, but it is easier to name the "Talant" players by name. How many times did you see highlights of linemen?

 

I don't think that being on this "All Mountian Team" will help get a scholly, most colleges identify possible recruits long before now. Coaches should have sent out film on the kids who can play at the next level. The Border Bowl on the other hand could help the kids, as there will be alot of recruiters there and they might find that diamond in the rough, but most should already have their names out there. As for the school I follow there are some kids on it but not the line, individually they have some weak spots but as a unit they are pretty good and as a unit deserve that honor, I don't doubt there were better individuals so I could see doing both, but I like the take of doing it as a unit, and then as individuals too.
