Highlands 2008 Offensive Line

Featured Replies

I figured I will get a thread started to see what everyone thought about this past year's offensive line at Highlands. After the 1st game vs. Ryle there were a lot of folks including myself that questioned their cohesiveness.

I think they proved to everyone that it would take a few games to form that bond and they ended the year IMO one of the best lines in the state. They gave Tony G tons of time in the playoffs and opened some gaping holes for Conner and Crawford as well.

Great job boys !!!

Coach Beatty had the same cohesive problems at Trinity during the regular season with the O-line. Once they got healthy during the playoffs they got on a role offensively. I think he mentioned in his post game meeting with the team, they had 13 different line combinations during the season. They loose three starters but have alot of quality depth waiting in the wings.:thumb:

ANTICIPATION is making you wait...making you wait. :D

Besides, I've gloated enough about this issue for a while!

It's about time the big boys get mentioned... Highlands has two seniors on the offensive line Dempsey and Bardgett, the rest are juniors Schlosser, Combs, Grubbs. The skilled linemen (the ones that can walk and chew gum at the same time) Roller and Welz. Everyone that knows football knows without a strong offensive line your team is in trouble, just ask Mike Brown. I don't care how good your skilled positions are without the line your in for a long day and long season!!!

Spoken like a true former tight end. You do know the definition of a tight end don't you? With apologies to Roller and Welz, a tight end is someone not talented enough to be a running back, qb or wide receiver, but not strong or tough enough to play the interior line. :D Just funning with you my friend.

Very talented and athletic group of linemen who are very well coached. HHS O-line is always impressive and with 3 starters returning next year they will once again be a force. I heard that during the JC playoff game that Tony G came off the field and said to Dale, "I have all freaking day to throw the ball!"

Pretty amazing stuff!

No conversation about Highlands O-Line is complete without mention of the OUTSTANDING job that Coach SCOTT TURNER does year in and year out. There were a few...well, more than a few times when Coach T wasn't the happiest of campers after games. But the smile on his face after the 5A Championship spoke volumes!! Next year, I expect him to work his magic again! THANKS COACH T...FOR BEING THE BEST!

I share the same sentiment. Great post:thumb:

Same here, the guy does an awesome job!

Ever since I can remember HHS linemen have always out worked their competition. They were very good this year and probably even better next year with 3 returning.

Do Roller or Welz move inside in 2009? If so, who is the other likely starter? If not, who are the other 2 likely starters?

Roller is way to big of a weapon to move inside imo....
