How is Roller doing since his injury?

I honestly believe that Austin's last name puts more pressure on him to do better on the field. I will not ignore that having that last name does not help at all. I would believe you are ignorant if you don't think so. Saying that, what kid would not take full advantage of having a father like that. I know i certainley would. Remember though that Austin has worked really hard to get those accolades. He is a great young man and is also a great student.

I saw Brandon today. He is doing just fine.He is just using one crutch now and a brace on that injured leg. He is starting to put weight on the leg also.Good news for bird fans. :banana::banana:

Yea, probably clued him in on the combine and supported him in his training efforts to achieve the invitation. I could see where some might think doors open automatically with the last name but if you truly know the family and AC's work ethic and talent you would take back those words. AC is very excited about the opportunity and already training.

 

Lets be honest, AC could go to any college he wants and have it paid for but he is going to show everyone in the state and folks around the country that he will have earned his scholly. Good luck to AC.

I saw Brandon as well. It's good news when the patient tells the therapist that he wants to do more to help his progress. Get well soon Brandon!

Agreed. He's moving around well and doing very well in his therapy/rehab. He and Hunter Schlosser are currently comprising the Birds Crutch Brigade! Both should be back better than ever for the 09 season.

Honestly, I don't think it had much if anything to do with it. At best, the name may have got someone to look at him, but beyond that, it was all Austin. The kid is very talented athletically, is very smart and works very hard.

Raider, thanks for asking. To amplify what NCBird said, Hunter had pretty bad ligament damage to his left ankle early in the year. One doc was advising that he should probably shut it down if it continued to bother him and have surgery to repair the ligament. A second opinion from another doc was that as long as he could handle the pain, he could keep playing because he couldn't hurt the ligament any further and then have surgery at the end of the year (which of course is the route Hunter chose to take). While he didn't hurt the ligament any more by continuing to play on it, his doc thinks he developed a stress fracture during the season in the lower fibula on his right leg probably as a result of favoring the left ankle.

 

The tough part right now is that for the next several weeks he will be on crutches due to surgery on the left ankle (which went well. As I understand it they cut out part of the ligament that had been badly stretched, and then scoped the ankle joint to clean it out). The doc is concerned that if he moves around too much on crutches, and thus places too much weight on the right leg, the stress fracture in the right leg isn't going to heal. So for the next couple of weeks, he's sitting on the couch watching ESPN. Not the best way to celebrate the Holidays, but hey, there are lots of Bowl games to watch.

 

 

Bottom line is that he and Brandon should be as good as new for the 09 campaign. It's a shame Brandon can't participate in the combine, but I believe the college recruiters will look at the full body of his high school accomplishments and will make some offers during his senior year. The kid is a stud.

Here's to a speedy recovery for Hunter. I can see him with the remote in one hand and ordering mom and dad around like there's no tomorrow. LOL
