Not a huge surprise. I'm in the minority but I wasn't overly impressed with HHS when I saw them play CCH.

You play like you are coached. HHS has a lot of good players and good kids. The NCC coaching staff not only out coached HHS, but had their players prepared and hungry to play hard. I for one hate to lose to NCC. However, congrats to NCC.

NCC came to play HHS did not. The Birds got smoked on the boards. The Geislers were all over the glass. Pangallo seemed to incur a rib injury, but continued to play. He played a great game. Congrats to the Breds and their fans.

Help me out here. What does this mean exactly? What did they come to do then? They weren't excited about the game? The coaching staff didn't have them prepared? They didn't try?

Not trying to be argumentative, but I've always found that remark - "We/They didn't come to play" - as a duplicitous way of not giving the other team credit for playing better than you did.

What he means to say is Highlands lack of skill on offense was exposed by NCC's tough interior defense and hustle. That and Willie got outcoached coming out of halftime. I'm not completely sure of the exact adjustments NCC made, but their offense looked much more fluid coming out of half.

So NCC outplayed HHS and deserved to win? ;)

Not so sure that equates to "not coming to play."

Congrats to NCC. :thumb:

Exactly. I'm with you on that comment. Although, I do feel that there are times where a team comes out flat and doesn't play hard, which is when I understand what people mean when they give this excuse.

I'll buy that also. I just didn't get the impression that's what happened as I read through all the posts, thus the question.

Yeah wasn't at all. In fact, I thought Highlands played pretty hard. They stayed in the game by hustling and rebounding.

Really surprised by this score. I don't think it's so much that Highlands isn't as good as advertised, but rather NCC is better than advertised.

Looks like Boone is clear cut #2 for now in the 9th until proven otherwise. Highlands was ranked #18 in the BGP poll.

Didn't NCC return there whole backcourt? This is a great win. Over a team some say are top 20 in the state. I still want to see them agsinst Holmes and Boone.

Highlands was ranked top 20 solely on their upset victory over Mason County.

No doubt about Boone being No.2 until proven otherwise.

Highlands does hustle, but the problem is that they dont have much strength/size. They need to get some of those boys from the student section tn out on the bball court.

Yeah they really aren't very quick either. This is where I could see an Austin Collinsworth helping them.

Congrats NCC. As others have mentioned, Pangallo and the Giesler boys played very well.

Birds will be fine. They are all juniors and will have up and down games. That happens with younger players. There is a lot of work to be done, but fortunately there are a lot of games to be played before districts. Don't be surprised if you see a dramatically different team performance-wise from the Birds come the tournament.

As for the coaching comments about Willie, I didn't see him get out coached at all. The guy's proven in the past he's an excellent coach and I'm sure he didn't leave his coaching abilities in the locker room for this game.

And me, I love the football championship chants. :thumb:
