Class 4A: Bell County 15 Bullitt East 13

Featured Replies

Bullitt East's offensive line sounded very tough in the first half, consistent with how they had played from about Week 6 or 7 onward. McCarthy is an outstanding player.

Shocked Merrick missed the chip-shot field goal. Also that TE dropped the early TD pass. However, I think those things played into Dudley's thinking later in the game. Anyone who thinks that Dudley doesn't scout or watch film didn't see the coaching of the DB's when Bullitt East was trying to run the throwback pass that resulted in the safety. That was all film scouting.

In 1991 Dudley held aloft his then 2-week old son following his first state title and said "We'll be back!" How fitting that he returns and that same infant child caught the winning TD pass. Congratulations, Dudley, you are one of a kind!

To win 3 close games in the end, including the title is no fluke. Excellent coaching and team play! Congratulations Bell Co. :thumb: :ylsuper:

If my school had a program that was struggling I believe Id call Coach Hilton and ask him for one of his assistants to get things turned around. He has a great staff that he has assembed. I love the 4th down TD pass. The shovel pass against KC and the TE pass against BE were both amazing calls.

I think he has an outstanding staff. This season could not happen to a more deserving group. They are great football players, wonderful students and even better kids. :ylsuper::ylsuper::ylsuper:

I thought a huge play in the game was after BEast took the 7-0 lead and had a chance to go up 14 when they drove the ball down the field again and threw a play action pass on 1st down. The pass was just barely tipped by the DB that was beaten on the play. If the QB had just waited 1 more second to throw the ball the receiver would have even been more wide open and BE would have been up 14-0. The safety was on a TE screen and the play was made by the DE.The td pass on 4th down by Bell was a great call but the safety for BEast screwed up. The DC for BE had just told him during the timeout to stay with the TE.

If Bell's QB had hit the open man on the first drive they would have been up 7-0 and the game may have been different. Or if Merrick had hit the Field Goal and put Bell up 3-0. Or if Zachery had got in on the 3QB sneak's on the 1 yard-line or IF Simpson caught the pass in the Endzone Bell would have tied the game at 7-7 or 14-7 (see earlier IF).

Bottom line lots of plays could have changed the game. They did not happen. It was a wonderful game and I feel the players for both teams played thier hearts out. :thumb:

Watching the replay of the game, their was ALOT of missed oppurtunites for the Bobcats that would have normally been 6 for them, but they just didnt capitialize. BE did have some to do with it, and Bell Co. just not capitializing had some to do with it, either way it was a great and hard fought game for both teams. Real shame someone had to lose it. McCarthy for BE I really felt bad for him, he came up with play after play to keep BE in it, that kid is a beast.

So is the BC fullback! I thought he played a major roll, picking up several muscle yards per carry. I don't even know his name but that kid looks like a D1 FB.

#32 Justin Goodin. Maybe the best FB to wear the Bell uniform. Good running the ball and a great blocker. Maybe one of the hardest postions for the 09 team to replace. Very few players will scrafice thier body for the good of the team. Goodin was one of those type players. He could have easily had 1,000+ yards for many teams. Instead b/c of his leadership and play he and his team will have a ring. :thumb::thumb:

I think John Dudley will be the fb next year and will be a very good one!

I'm not sure about that. It could happen but he's a big play threat at TE, I wouldnt look past Josh Brown being the FB next year, and beside JDH at the other LB spot, Brown is a pretty good young talent and came up big in the state championship game.

I agree. JD is very capable of playing FB but he is too valuable to play both. He would take a beating inflicted by himself with the constant contact by playing LB/FB. Brown would look to be the FB in 09.

The bad part about that is the BE coaches told the defense during the timeout that they were going to throw the ball to Hilton.

Charger, your team excuted their game plan pretty good and brought there "A" game to Louisville. Very hard hitting and fighting bunch of young men. #13 deserves much respect very hardnosed back. One of the best downhill runners the cats have faced this year.

I've not seen Bell Co. use that jump pass to the TE since the Nelson-Slusher connection back in '05-'06, I had completely forgot about Dudley even having that call, but I'm sure as heck glad that he did:D.
