Highlands vs. CovCath Buckeye Prep Classic Predictions

Featured Replies

Lets get this one started. Highlands will probably come into this game on Sunday undefeated after they destroy an overmatched Cooper Squad on Thurs. CovCath is reeling after consecutive home losses.

I think Highlands wins this one by atleast 10 points. CovCth will keep it close with this being a huge rivalry but wont be able to handle Stephen K. I predict this to be a huge day for him.

Highlands 64

Cov Cath 54

Kowolonek gets 28 and 10 boards.

I say Highlands by 10 as well.

CCH has won something like 10 out of the last 14 in this matchup, and I fully expect them to be ready by tourney time but at this point I am not sure CCH is a top 10 team in the region.

Highlands wins this one by 10+. Their physical style of play will cause CCH a lot of troubles. Any team that has put pressure on the CCH guards this year has had a lot of success and gotten easy turnovers against them. I agree Steven K. should have a field day and get a double double. Let's also not forget that while they'll play limited roles, the football boys will be back as well off a state title win!!

Highlands by 10-15.

The football boys will see no action in this game at all. Look for Grubbs and Welz to play a little JV ball until they get their legs under them. Tony G. will help out some if he does actually play, but really do not see what Austin Collinsworth has to add to this group.

I'll take Cov Cath, no reason really.

I agree with your first statements but disagree on Collinsworth. This kid's motor is going every second he is participating in practice and games. I think he can add a ton of athleticism to this team. He would be a key role player, someone you can put in to defend the other team's best player and get some loose balls/rebounds. There's a lot to be said about someone that plays hard the entire game.

IMO I think you will see Grubbs/Welz/Collinsworth and that is it on the footballers. I honestly dont see Guidugli or Turner coming out to see limited action.

I agree. I don't really see Collinsworth being a big contributor at all this season offensively. He will be the defensive player that averages maybe 3-5 points a game but does all the little things and averages around 5 boards a game.

His athleticism will really help the Birds depth at the guard position.

I see Grubbs and Welz as prominant players due to their size and the fact they have been involved with the program since day 1. When you talk about defending the other teams best player, you are talking about defending a player that probably has played year round in a competitive atmosphere. Tough task for someone who has not. Not saying it' can't be done, just a tough task experience wise.

As far as the game Sunday, I'll take the Birds in a barnburner. 52-49

Tough task but it doesnt take 100 AAU games a year to move your feet, deny and get after it. JMO

I think he could help this team.

I think this could be a close game.......great rivalry will make that so. Right now, still give the edge to HHS even without football players, but make no mistake, it will be a different match-up when they meet later in the season/post season. Curious what thoughts are for the keys for each team to win THIS match-up?

The key for Highlands is to be physical and apply pressure to the CCH guards. Apply pressure and you'll get a lot of turnovers out of CCH. Their guards don't handle it well and I believe have turned the ball over around 50-60 times in 3 games.

Offensively they just need to do what they've been doing. Run their offense and find the open man. The more you force CCH to play defense, the more likely you are to find a weak spot and have an opening for an easy basket.

For CCH the key for them is ball control. The guards have to be able to handle the Birds tough man to man D and be able to take care of the ball. Also need to try and get the ball inside more. If they try to play an outside/in game rather than inside/out and live by the three, HHS will run them off the floor the way Conner did in the 4th quarter the other night.

I like Highlands chances at being successful more than CCH. They are really struggling right now and not playing as a team.

HHS current roster has 8 Juniors. Adding the two big boys put you at 10. If Austin is in the mix, you now have 11 Juniors on the team. I think that Turner will come out and be the only Senior on the roster.

At least 3 or 4 of the JR boys will have to get there minutes in the JV game thus limiting the minutes of Sophs. Then next year I can't see the Birds having 11 Seniors on the roster. Interesting numbers game for Willie to work through.

Who guards Maile?
