Sounds like Holy Cross kept it respectable for awhile and actually had a good game going. After seeing CCH against Mason Co, I think the Indians are a little better than people think.

Closer than CCH was and HC played on the road. Not a horrible result overall.

Wow 29 points is all they could muster.

They were stuggling on offense tonight, but they managed to come up with the shots to win. Their defense won them the game tonight. I think Mason Co. shot around 29% from the field.

Both. As I said on another Mason County thread, the Royals will have to win games with defense; the days of putting up 80 or 90 points are gone for a while. Held HC to 2 points in the 4th quarter.

 

Holy Cross gave Mason County lots of defensive looks tonight; and while it was frustrating to see the Royals take their time scoring, they were ahead by 6 points or so when HC was playing 2-3 then matchup zone defenses, so there was no need to hurry. I thought that Justin Lang hit a couple of really big baskets down the stretch to extend the Mason County lead.

What I have noticed is only 1 or 2 players are actually willing to drive and create. Also, way too many open shots are being passed up.

Mason Co will only get better with scoring. I think they are a solid D team already.

I think a majority of us figured that Middleton would decide how far the Royals would go this year, it's obvious now, it's going to be their defense that will win or lose the 10th region.

 

The Mason County JV team won by 25, Holy Cross only dressed 6 players. The passing and execution on offense was night and day compared to last week. You could point to the opponent, but it was just a MUCH better effort by them.

 

As for the Varsity team, when the Royals play teams that play hard nosed, disciplined defense and take care of the ball, we are going to see A LOT of these type of games. Considering the Royals schedule doesn't feature many "cupcakes" we are going to see these types of scores all year.

 

Mason County just doesn't have enough consistent outside shooting, they don't have anyone who can really create their own shot and that can lead to some stagnant offense. You need to be able to move the ball and really work for every point. We saw that again tonight. Middleton can do things on his own, but we have seen what happens when he tries to do too much. Thankfully Russ was playing within the offense most of the night, when he did try and take over, he turned the ball over or struggled.

I wouldn't go that far. Holmes is still the clear favorite. I would put Holmes, then Boone/Highlands, then Ryle, then Cov Cath. Any of these teams can be upset, the battle for #2 will be closer.

I think we saw that if Holmes comes into a game with the wrong attitude, they will lose. They may have all the talent in the world, but if they don't play together or don't have enough respect for who they are playing, they can be beaten.
