December 2, 200817 yr Author UPDATE: Mike Thomas said there were three parts of the meeting: 1. practice facilities and indoor facilities -- those are on track, he said. 2. 'operation pieces' -- "There’s a laundry list of those things and they’re going to happen." Basically a bigger budget. 3. The expansion of Nippert Stadium, including more seats, luxury boxes and infrastructure such as restrooms and concession stands. This is the "trigger moment to launch that thing." "I think you can't put a price tag on what this has done for this program, this department, this university and this community," Thomas said. Kelly said he was excited about the message he received in today's meeting with Thomas, Zimpher and Wyler. "I too need the gas to run, and today my tank was filled," Kelly said. Kelly said he's told other universities that he's not going to be interested in their jobs. "My name has come out with virtually every job that's out there," Kelly said. "I'm hoping very soon Obama mentions my name as ambassadorship to Ireland, that would be nice. That may continue to happen, but I can tell you that I'm going to be at the University of Cincinnati."
December 2, 200817 yr Agreed. I can't imagine that an undefeated Big East team (or Big 10 or Pac-10, to name a few) would ever be kept out of the Nat'l Title, no matter how weak the conference is that year. Unless there are two other undefeateds from bigger conferences... Like '04 when Auburn when undefeated and was behind USC and OU. But, on a normal year, there's usually only one team, if that, that has no losses. Look at U of L two or three years ago...they were very close to getting in the big game...and West Virginia last year. The late loss to Pittsburgh knocked them out.
December 2, 200817 yr As long as the facilities are built, BK isn't going any where. He knows a good situation when he sees one and that is here with UC. Cincinnati is a recruiting hot spot nationally and he could recruit Cincy and Ohio alone and still put a winning product on the field. The winning now is only going to attract more of the top athletes and players from other states as well. UC will only continue to get better as long as the support system stays behind BK.
December 2, 200817 yr BK is an awesome coach. I was at a coaching clinic with him and Marvin Lewis and BK had much more floor presence. The guy really understands the game and the guy means business.
December 3, 200817 yr All of this goes down at the same time word leaks out that Weis isn't going anywhere. A little ironic, dont you think? Kelly also chose his words carefully. I don't believe it for a second. Puts on a great face and it is good pub for UC and the fans, but you really can't trust college coaches in my opinion. Not really being critical of Kelly, just college coaches in general.

Long term I don't trust BK for a second when it comes to him moving on. BK is here for another year or two. I'm more than fine with that...

BK is here for another year or two. I'm more than fine with that... Nothing wrong with that... UC is going to have to do some major major fund raising. With their debt and budget difficulties, combined with the present credit and bonding crunch, many of these proposed projects could take a long while to get done. Good for UC however, they have a vision and did all they could do to keep BK. On the flip side, I'm guessing there will be a few assistants moving on. Any ideas who might be on the move? I think with these new proposals, Cronin and Company are going to be locked into their practice facility for a long while.

If you are hinting at Coombs to Miami, I doubt it. I think Pat Narduzzi gets that job. I wouldn't be shocked to see Mike Elston look to get a HC job however. Mick got a new practice facility when the Linder Center was built two years ago. Not sure where you are going there...

Its not like they can come out and say, "I love UC, but I'm going to move on to bigger and better things when the opportunity comes along." I think people and fans just need to understand the way things work. Brian Kelly can be committed to UC while he's there. Just because he's interested in a more prestigious and lucrative job doesn't mean otherwise...that's part of the business.

I think it is the greatest compleiment to a HC for his assistants to leave for higher level jobs. Is this the start of BK assistants being rumored for other jobs?
December 3, 200817 yr BK will be at Cincy for 1 more year. He will be gone when Weiss gets canned next year.

UC fans need to be happy w/ him for the next year or two, hope like heck he recruits great in that time, and then really hope that they hire a great replacement. Does this remind anyone of the Matta situation at Xavier?
