Visitors on my porch.

Featured Replies

The past few weeks I have been visited by some people from a different faith than myself. At first a couple of ladies, and we talked for quite a while. We had disagreed on several issues, but I made a huge point in being as nice as I could be.

Weeks later two men from the same church knocked on my door. This study was longer and again I was very open/nice/not argumentive. I invited them back.

This week the top men from their church decided to come. Momma and I were fixin to leave and I told them I only had a few minutes but told them to call me and set up a hour to talk. But while they were here I told them...."You cannot change the way I feel compared to your beliefs and vice versa."

I asked them about some issues that we differ on. Jesus is God/Is there a Hell? 144K

So if anyone wants to help me or come from the side where you don't believe Jesus is God...(just a good prophet) feel free to share your thoughts. They should be here around december 3rd/4th

I also asked them if I could come to their church and share a testimony about my life and these pasts months with my wife. They said no.

Good Luck. I am not sure if I would have them back after they wouldn't let me come to their church to speak.

I never could make any headway with a group of the same kind of religion I think you are talking about. I worked with them at a movie theater. Anyone who believes in a companion to scripture isn't willing to listen to scripture.

deal breaker.

Anyone who believes in a companion to scripture isn't willing to listen to scripture.

What does that mean?

AL, why did you invite them back?

AL, simply ask them their birthdays so you can send them a card, or ask them what they think about your beautiful Christmas tree and you won't have to share your theology. Cult, plain and simple. Here's what I don't understand about the watchtower society,,,,if there's only 144K making it, then what about those that have passed on and those that are still here that are of their faith? I'm quite sure that would account for more than 144K. Are they boxing each other out for position in line?

I invited them in and back because I love to share the Bible with anyone.

I try to be very fair and honest in a face to face meeting like I'd try to do on a website.

It keeps me in good practice because 1st Peter 3:15 comes into play..."Always be ready to give an answer explaining why you believe, and be gentle about it."

It keeps me from doing "honey Do's" that Momma wrote out for me. :bunny:

My sons will see me sharing Jesus with strangers and maybe learn that people need the LORD.

My question is more self centered.

If there are only 144,000 making it into Heaven, then why in the world would you spend so much time out recruiting more people? That's just bad business and creates too much competition. I know there are a lot better people out there than me, so the more folks we convert, the worse my chances would get.

I'd keep it a secret to anyone who isn't already on my team. And for those who are on my team, I'd be trying to weed out everyone who I thought was better than me to increase my odds. Then I'd try to discourage all the people I don't like so I'd hopefully be able to spend eternity in peace.

Seriously, I admire this approach and your reasoning behind it is solid. Nice job, AL.

Perhaps you could have a delegation from your church at your house on the 3rd or 4th. If they're willing to let you come to their church, maybe you could bring them to yours

I'll admit to knowing very little about this religion. Where does the 144K come from? I'm sure that it is just not some random number, is it?

It comes from the 144,000 surrounding the throne in Revelation (Chapter 7?). They take the number literally to mean that many will 'make it to heaven.' The rest of the believers will inherit the newly sanctified earth.

Of course Pre-millenial Dispensationalist also use a literal reading of the 144,000 but attach that number to Jews who are converted during the period of time they call the Tribulation that, in their thinking, occurs after a "rapture coming" of Jesus to take the saints out prior to the Tribulation.

It can get really :creepy: in some theologies.

Whenever The Witnesses come to my door I ask them if they have ever thought about becoming Catholic , Invite them to Sunday Mass and try to give them literature on the teachings and beliefs of the Catholic Church . BTW I'd probably do the same thing If AL came to my door .;)
