TallTrees isn't referring to you, but the boast early in the season that Henry Co would "dominate" 1A and 2A teams Trimble Co, Carroll Co, Eminence, Owen Co.

 

They did dominate those teams. However, if Central's goal was to dominate Henry Co, then they, too, succeeded.

I do not know if you were referring to the HC vs. Eminence game. I posted after that game and made some comments about "blow -outs", running up the score - and the bad karma that sometimes engenders.

 

I know that game was a "rivalry game" - but still.

You're right, had HC not let freshman score against Eminence then the Central-HC game would have been much closer. No such thing as karma champ, just a good team doing what they should do, and I am sure HC won't complain about the score!

I saw the highlights on the news...not sure how many teams in 3A, or any class, can run with those kids. Central will be tough out for any team, should be fun to watch.

You once asked me "why the hate for Henry Co?" I'll deny that it is hate, but it is this kind of stuff that leaves a bad taste in people's mouths about the Henry Co program. Couple that with those posters that simply like to run their mouths in the pregame threads and never congratulate a team that beats them.

 

Let's examine the record this year.

Against 2A teams 2-0

Against 3 A teams 0-4

Against 4 A teams 1-0 (that team is 0-10)

Against 5A teams 0-1

 

We all heard early on about how HC was going to "totally dominate" those 1A and 2A teams. Maybe they should set some loftier goals next time, because the rest of the record doesn't look so good.

Much was made of Henry County's first four games, winning by a combined score of 206-0. However, the competition got tougher and the defense allowed 207 points in the final 5 games of the year (including the playoff loss to Central). I think that many knowledgeable fans saw something like this coming.

Not only did the competition get tougher but the "team" was dealt with a tougher situation to handle. According to post on here and their local paper they lost most of their starting defense to major injuries. I don't think any knowledgeable fan saw this many injuries coming. I just hope that those kids are able to recover from the injuries and able to continue play whether it be on this Henry County team or if the seniors choose to go on to play at a higher level.

Go back and read some posts, many fans give love to those that win-myself included. Running thier mouths??-don't be the pot and the kettle, you do plenty of that on your own-many fans do. You act as though HC has only been recently playing and many times losing to local "smaller" teams. Let's not make this into something that it isn't. YOU keep bringing up ONE fans quote...should I just use one fan from another teams quote and base EVERY bit of my propaganda on that??? That is pigeon holeing a team into something it isn't (many of the fans respect local rivalries, that's what makes this fun-being able to brag at the factories or local shops for year!). I am sure you are referring to "THEY" as the fans??? I feel certain, as with any program, that the HC team sets much loftier goals (I would certainly hope anyway). Let's not forget that in the old class HC was a small 2A team and in the new class they are just one or two males from being 2A again. My hole point was that sometimes scores are not avoidable nor indicative of how a game was played-and that has nothing to do with any other score at anytime (HC has been on the bad side of a score MANY times and you won't see me complain about it). Young kids and back ups deserve the chance to play and play hard, I can't imagine a coach saying "when you get to the goal line, fall down."

 

I congratulate Central, they are a GREAT football team, there is a reason they are the defending champ. Good luck Yellowjackets! Good luck to all the teams left in the championship run. No sour grapes here. :thumb:

You are correct, the last game I was at I counted 13 kids not dressed out wearing some sort of cast, brace, crutches, boot, or leg imobilizer (that was just my count, may not be accurate). It looked like a sales ad for an orthopedic magazine! Just kidding, no team should have to go through that many injuries. Sucks for the kids. I too hope they recover, not sure how many are seniors. Either way, they will learn one of life's greatest lessons. Life's not fair. That is the great thing out our sport, it teaches the greatest life lessons.

I saw Henry County once this season (their loss to North Oldham), and - in my opinion - this was an above-average team when healthy (as they were then). In no way was this a dominating team against its peers, but certainly an above-average squad.

 

I don't think they had much chance of beating Central even if they'd been healthy, but it was a shame they weren't even close to being at full strength.

 

That, however, is football. It's the part of football that really stinks, but we all live with it. If you're a HS football fan who hasn't had your gut wrenched by injuries, then you haven't been a HS football fan for long...

 

Henry County fans - good luck to you guys next year! You've got a good coaching staff in New Castle, and I think the Cats will continue to improve!

While we are on the subject of injuries and the TC faithful are available. I was curious if Bird wound up anywhere? I know he's lucky just to be alive, but hadn't heard much since late last year. Can you shed any light?
