I know what you mean, for years Raceland ran the wishbone, now it was more unpredictable then Russell's offense, but Raceland ran the ball 90% of the time. Teams stacked the box and Raceland RB's that could have had 2K yards, only had 1K yards. It was predictable. At times that made it hard on Raceland.

 

Russell has been fortunate, over the years everyone knew what they were going to do, and still couldn't stop it. That's a testament to the coaching staff. But, I do like some balance.

 

Two years ago Raceland passed 80% of the time, but we had a very good passer and a young backfield (Denton and Carver). Last year we were 60/40 pass/run, with a better backfield (Denton and Carver) and a good receiving corp. This year we are 60/40 run/pass with an experienced backfield (Denton and Carver) an experienced QB, and several good targets. I like being able to adapt to the personnel that you have. Flexibility is good, even though my wife would say that I am not very flexible.

 

Good post Ram! I agree, you have to be able to adapt to your teams personnel in high school football. Its not like college where you can recruit players to fit your particular system. In high school you have to work with what you got and I think Raceland's coaching staff has done a great job of that even dating back to when Pettrey and those guys played. I know even in the 2006 season Raceland started running the ball a little more because Denton and Carver were so talented. I know Brett and John Scott get alot of credit but done overlook Tyler Boyles. He is a very good QB and he can hurt an oppossing team just as much as Denton and Carver if he has the chance. He is a good passer, no doubt but IMO he is more effective running the ball and making plays with his legs. Raceland has alot of weapons in the backfield and that has obviously been a huge part of their success. I hope they all bring it this friday!

Commenting on a few of the earlier post about Raceland's offensive attack and different formations and the like. I will make the statement tht I don't think that we have seen what all this team can do, meaning they could come out with things that no one has seen out of them this year along with the many things they have already shown that an opposing coach will have to spend time preparing for.

 

Having all of the talk about the offense, I still think that it is the Rams Defense that carries this team. Defense Wins Championships. :thumb:

Allowing 1375 rushing yards, 125 per game, in 11 games.

Allowing 1000 passing yards, less then 100 per game, in 11 games.

 

Having 9 interceptions in 11 games, with 261 returns yards and 3 touchdowns off of interceptions.

 

Having 13 fumble recoveries, with 38 return yards and 1 touchdown off of fumble recoveries.

 

Having 10 players with over 50 tackles, and 5 of those with over 70 tackles.

 

Is that the kind of defense that you are talking about?:ylsuper:

I have yet to see this ram team HIT people and punish them this year! And this is the perfect week to start!

Ram players, as good as those stats are they mean nothing going into Friday night. You have to give that kind of effort and more on every play in every game. There will be plenty enough time to look what you have done after the season is over.

Should you start admiring it now well then........no one can go foward by looking in the rear view mirror.

This is the kind of defense that has carried Raceland this far, and this the only effort that will continue to carry Raceland.

 

Offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships, simple fact.

He was at the LCA game but left before I had a chance to talk to him.

IMO, he is greatly responsible for bringing the Pride back to Ram football.

I always love defensive quotes! :thumb: I couldve cared less if I touched the field on the offensive side of the ball when I played! I was so nervous starting linebacker my freshmen year against Dayton. Coach Dixon grabbed me by the shoulder pads and said you're not a freshmen you're a football player. Offense wins games but defense wins championships. Get out there and take care of business. Ever since then I've loved orange crush! And the defensive playing these guys do with that rams on the front of that jersey!

Oldrambler the game you mention where they danced around on our R was my last home game played as a ram. Very sore subject for this household! Every time we beat them I get a little piece of that back! Go out and play hard rams! Trust me you do not want your last home game as a ram a L from the view!

Round 1 was a 25-point win for Raceland at Fairview. No reason for me to believe the outcome will be different this time around.
