I agree. I can remember driving through town every day and seeing it alive with spirit. Banners, Signs everywhere, windows painted. It seems now the only time the town really gets "involved" is for the state semi's and finals, which is a shame considering these young men bust their tails every week.

Signs use to be purchased by the school, with the budget, that doesn't happen anymore. If you want signs around town, businesses or individuals need to do it themselves.

There is a small group that do their very best to make signs and decorate. The problem is, this group is also responsible for feeding , cleaning the uniforms and practice clothes and all those last minute pick ups of those players working hard to win another state championship. It would be nice if the community would take it upon themselves to decorate their stores and neighbors decorate their homes. Make a sign and stick it in your yard, especially if you live close to a player.

I quess I'm getting a little tired of hearing about "nobody goes to the games" and "the town isn't decorated like it use to be". It takes a village. Stop talking and get busy.:thumb:

I hate to be harsh, but I think that's a very weak excuse. The coaches and young men work hard year round to be able to put a winning program together year after year. For fans to quit showing up just because they expect a win is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard when it comes to fan support.
But that's the only reason (other than the aforementioned cultural changes) that seems to make sense.
For a town that prides itself so much on the football program, and rightfully so, the fans can definitely be pathetic at times! Get off your duff and support these kids!
At the risk of self-promotion*, I'll refer the towns-folk back to my post (#93) on this subject.

Well I believe I had the solution. Highlands should petition the KHSAA to move up to 6A, and be put in the same district as St. X and Trinity. That should get the fans back out. :D:D

I believe the spirit gets lost in the process...it's no longer "special".
This sums it up in a single sentence. I remember the days of bon fires and painted store windows. Those truly were the good old days.
BTW, SIX PAGES on this thread. You'd think we were playing Covcath.

THINK AGAIN!! You ARE playing ASHLAND! DON'T UNDERESTIMATE!! According to everone else, we didn't stand a chance with Dixie Heights either!:fight:

Well my fine feathered friend, you had better have that blow up santa on your front lawn by Friday, November 21, 6 p.m. WITH BLUE LIGHTS and a sign that read " GO BIRDS BEAT TOMCATS" or else.:fire:

I was actually thinking of riding through "town" today after work to see the store windows. Makes me sad knowing it doesn't happen any more. I can remember raiding the art class for paint and practically running to Wiedeman's or Shulker's windows after school. BF you are right, those were the good old days!

That wasn't a Santa, and I can't tell you what the sign really said. :scared::sssh::lol:

You're preachin' to the choir here. The people on here talking about these issues are not the people that need to hear your message. The posters that I'm reading concerns from are generally the more loyal supporters and those that are most likely to show that support in various ways. No, the people who really need to hear this are those who have become complacent and no longer make an effort to show their support of the hometown treasure that is this team. And I "believe" the town window painting thing was an art department project, or was somehow orchestrated by the school. Hopefully, we will get the opportunity for that to happen this year.

One problem is the Sunday before the State game the city has a Christmas walk thru town and a tree lighting. All the stores participate. Stores aren't really all the willing to paint up their windows blue and white when they are expected to showcase their stores for a Christmas event.

Of course, it wouldn't matter to me if I owned a store, I would have a BLUE Christmas theme.

Hey, we actually installed some blue lights last year, just for you! And you know Frosty had his sign. Hopefully, he'll be back up soon and sporting all the necessary regalia. Maybe someone will donate a Highlands hat for him or something. :D

You're half right. It's a Frosty the Snowman.

Now I'm gonna have Elvis in my head all day! :irked:

But the Christmas walk is critical. That's where you get all your best info. ;)
