I'll say it again. I know of at least one 2 seed that has only won 3 games this year. It won't change much of anything to do away with 3 and 4 seeds, except keep more kids out ofthe playoffs.

Although I see your point I' ll bet you that there are more than a couple of 3 seeds that beat 2 seeds in round 1.

I disagree somewhat. In Class 6A there are many very good mathups in the 1st round. However, I must agree that in most of the other classes you will see many blowouts.

Yes! Once that deficit reaches 45 points and the game is in the second half.

ddky70, that was my point. With the system some want, the 3 seed never gets to prove itself. There are many reasons a 3 seed ended up a 3 seed, but they could also be better than a 1 or 2 from another district.

I for one am in the camp of thinking that it would be more logical just having the top 2 teams make the playoffs. My reasoning is that a lot of games are just wasted trips for teams, could avoid potential injuries, save money for people. However, I don't have a problem with 4 teams making the playoffs. It creates more revenue for schools, gives kids an extra game to play the sport in which they love, and gives us fans something to do on a Friday night. In the future, I would personally be fine with whatever decision.

The 1 and 4 games are just about pointless. But the 2 and 3 games are usually really good games. So I don't know if I agree with the whole "worst week" thing. Football is football, and I for one love the game. Regardless of the outcome. This game is about having fun. It's HS football people, not the NFL!

I think anytime you have more kids playing football longer it is a good thing. More schools have an opportunity to play in a playoff that may never in thier school history would have gotten to.

 

It may be tough on the avid football fan that just wants to see head to head good football, but it isn't about that fan that gets bored at the blowout games. It's about the kids that get to play in a playoff game and be proud about their team and school. It's another week and they are in the playoffs. Good for them.

 

More kids playing football is always a "good thing".

Happens every year, and often these 2 vs. 3 games are the best games in the state. I agree that the 1 vs. 4 games are generally garbage, but no way I'd consider chopping things back any further than three from each district.

Agreed. The "worst week in Kentucky High School football" is the week after the finals when NO teams are playing.:cry:

If we are going to limit the number of teams in the postseason in football further than we do now (I think 80% make the playoffs), ... then this should not start until we do the same for the other sports. Football is the ONLY sport in KY where you are not automatically in (unless you are in a 4 team district). It's only fair to do the same with every sport.

One of the best playoff games I ever saw was #1 Scott County vs #4 North Laurel in 2004. Scott County pulled it out in the final minute, but it was a GREAT game. I think that scare gave the Cardinals a wake up call and they went all the way to the state title game in 4A.
