Is it really the "worst week " in Kentucky High School football? Isn't it good that more kids get to play another week or maybe 2 or 3? I think anytime you have more kids playing football longer it is a good thing. More schools have an opportunity to play in a playoff that may never in thier school history would have gotten to.

 

It may be tough on the avid football fan that just wants to see head to head good football, but it isn't about that fan that gets bored at the blowout games. It's about the kids that get to play in a playoff game and be proud about their team and school. It's another week and they are in the playoffs. Good for them.

 

More kids playing football is always a "good thing".

Happens every year, and often these 2 vs. 3 games are the best games in the state. I agree that the 1 vs. 4 games are generally garbage, but no way I'd consider chopping things back any further than three from each district.

 

If there is just one game tonight where a #4 upsets a #1 then it is worth having 4 teams. IMHO!:ylsuper:

There have been just eight (out of 112) #4 seeds to win over the past three seasons.

 

Doesn't that make it worth having 4 teams? I am sure that those 8 are glad there were 4 teams!:ylsuper:

While I agree there will be some blow outs, who care? Maybe I missed it, but people don't seem to get as upset when there are blowouts in the basketball tourny. People don't get up set when there are "blow outs" in soccer, volleyball, baseball or every other sport that allows all teams into the tourny. Why is it different for football?

 

While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, kids play football because they love the sport. If they get to practice the sport they love an extra week, if they get to play the sport they love in an extra game, shouldn't that be what matters? If blow outs bore you, then just don't go to the games that you think will be a blow out. The kids playing won't miss you, but they'll enjoy getting to strap in on and do the best to their abilities one more time.

Let's see. Pendleton County has disappeared altogether and Boyle get's to play both Franklin County and Knox Central. At least it's at home.

I certainly don't agree with 0-10 teams making the playoffs but all districts are different. In NKY 6A, the 2nd through 4th seed could have been drawn out of a hat as far as I'm concerned. It may be an exception to the rule but no format will please all. The state added two classes to give more teams a chance, and even though I think they spread it out way too far, it is what it is, they made the bed, now sleep in it.

Agree 100%. There's something about an 0-10 team in the playoffs that bothers me - BUT NOT ENOUGH that I want alll the #3 and #4 seeded teams eliminated from the playoffs in order to get rid of the 0-10s. There's been enough 3 and 4 seeds advance deep into the playoffs that it's worth it.

 

And hey...what a story if/when an 0-10 wins... :lol:

If you want the best football match-ups, you go wit the ranking system like what is done in Ohio. However, that significantly reduces the number of teams that get the chance to play.

 

But to NEERFAN's comment about 6A this year, and most every year for that matter, every team except Cooper this year could be put into a hat. CCHS did not make the playoffs, but could have competed with most teams in the top 25 6A schools in the state (with the exception of X).

Personally, i like the current playoff system even with all the blow-outs, JUST because of games like Highlands had tonight. The close ones, and the upsets. You gotta love the underdog! (I do at least.) You tell me games like that don't make the blow-outs that occur worth it, and I'll call you crazy. Those games are what football is all about. Not only are they the best games and the most fun to watch, but they are the games that turn around programs all together. Puts a little wind in the team's sails, if you catch my drift. It's amazing what a big upset can do. Confidence fuels and even gives birth to talent. As for the other end of the spectrum it also serves as a wake up call to the favorite that barely squeaks by. It drives them to play harder than ever before and take each step to the finals ever so carefully. Driving them to make even more amazing plays and go to brand new heights. It's playoff time boys anything can happen. Change the system and you take that away from Kentucky. I don't want to see it go. But hey, that's only my opinion.

Watch some of the lopsided scores this week. The KHSAA needs to limit the playoffs to two teams per district. The 1 vs 4 games will be mismatch city all around the state.

 

Tell that to Highlands who almost got beat by Bryan Station.

Just over the river Indiana has great football and everyone makes it to the playoffs. I don't think it is a problem. I would dare to say Indiana high school football is better than Kentucky.

No lopsidedness at David Cecil Memorial Stadium tonight. Highlands had the scare of their lives almost failing to win in the first round and slipping away with a 28-22 win scoring the go-ahead with 19 seconds left. I'd say that was a good matchup.

I totally agree with that statement, but who is to say that a No.4 seed isn't the best team. Maybe they just had issues that needed addressing during the regular season. There are always circumstances.

Since you do get the occasional 4 defeating a 1 why change it? They don't change the NCAA basketball tourney from 64 to 32. And, there has never been a 16 beat a 1. Leave it alone. The only change I would like to see is.........since over 95% of the teams get in now, find a way for ALL to get in.
