No he shouldn't Ty left him nothing to build on and I personally can't stand Notre Dame so I love them being terrible but this isn't Weis fault. If you don't believe Ty was that bad of a coach look at Washington I guarantee in four years no matter who they hire they won't be any better off than Notre Dame right now.

Tennessee's recruiting base is nationwide. Obviously it'd help to control the south as opposed to the northeast, but a capable Vols' head coach will be able to pick & choose where he recruits. The Tennessee brand is already established.

I agree that Kelly isn't going to be one of Tenn's 1st options. My point was that I do not put much credence into the theory that a coach should (or should not) accept a job because of where his recruiting base is.

 

Coaches, particularly those who have had success, can recruit anywhere. The Tennessee jobs, the Notre Dame jobs, the USC jobs, etc. are jobs that don't come open very often. They're programs that are established and very highly thought of throughout the nation. ANY coach should be grateful for the recruiting base that prior coaches have established at these elite programs. A coach like Brian Kelly would have no problem going to TN and finding recruits. The same applies for basketball.

 

I would agree that a coach should consider his recruiting base(s) if the move is lateral or a step backwards. Kelly should never leave Cincinnati for, say, Arizona State, for example. I'd also agree that Kelly could be very dangerous at Notre Dame, if they do fire Weis and look his way...
