Personally, I think, if the Cats win out(I think they will) they are headed to the Outback Bowl.

 

If they split, it's the Chic-Fil-A.

 

If they lose out it's the Music City.

 

The SEC will probably only fill 8 spots. Leaving (I think) the Papajohn and Liberty vacant.

If they are in the Outback, I'm there. If they can't get there, and USF gets to the Pizza bowl, I wouldn't mind going to Birmingham for that one.

How do the bowls mentioned as possibilities compare to each other ? What bowl would be the most prestigious ? Which would be the least ?

Music City and Liberty are equal, Independence is maybe a slight step down, and Papajohns is the bottom of the barrell.

If I were the Music City Bowl, every year my Top 2 selections would be UT and UK. Why do you say they are afraid of "deminishing returns"?

Same reason the Florida bowls don't like to see Florida schools tied to them. Tourist dollars.

 

The schools get 90% of the money made from ticket sales in most bowls. There is little profit from the game itself for the host city. Last year, Tennessee and especially Wisconsin fans came down and spent the week after Christmas here. They spent a ton of money on hotels, food, and attractions (Busch Gardens, Clearwater Beach, Caladesi Island, etc ...) in Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Pete. That's a major impact to the Tampa Bay economy.

 

In a third consecutive appearance in the Music City Bowl, most UK fans will stay no more than one night in Nashville. Most will not go to Opryland and other Nashville attractions. Most UT fans have already been there, done that. That's diminishing returns.

I see what you are saying but what are the chances of the stadium being full if it's a Wake Forest/South Carolina match-up?? UT and UK are going to almost guarantee a full stadium.

Right now, I am picking the Peach Bowl. (Chick-fil-a) I hope we win two more and maybe get the Outback Bowl.

UK is heading back to Nashville or maybe Liberty. If Vandy beats UK then they are heading to the Liberty Bowl. If UK beats Vandy and them looses to Tenn it's Music City. If UK wins out then I could see Peach. But I don't see UK beating TN on Fulmers last stand.

Barnhart and UK have some sort of connection with the Cotton Bowl.

This is the last year the game is being played there and UK had a historic win there under Bear Bryant.

Re-read my last paragraph again. It's not about filling the stadium. 60,000 UT fans, most of whom will drive in the night before the game, contribute to the local economy less than 20,000 Wake and SC fans who will tend to spend the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve in Nashville.

 

I will tell you right now, that the Outback would rather have UK than UF. Raymond James will still sellout and at least a quarter to half of the Kentucky fans will stay in the Tampa Bay Area awhile. That's what happened in 98. The Cats need to win out.

Auburn's loss today probably helps UK as well.... The Tigers have to beat Alabama to become Bowl Eligible, but even if they do they will probably be locked up in either Birmingham, Shreveport, or Memphis.

 

Ole Miss and Vandy are UK's biggest nemesis' right now. Ole Miss became bowl eligible today and have LSU and Miss. State left..... Vandy has three games left to get eligible.

The optimal UK scenario:

 

- UK wins out and finishes with 8 wins (Guarantees Chick Fil A Bowl).

I think we the debacle against Vandy UK is headed back to the Music City, unless Vandy beats TN and goes to the Chick-Fil-a which might push Ole Miss to Music City, but I don't see the Music City not going with UK if they are there to pick. I still would not mind seeing Memphis.
