They could all play for Dale. They would be skinnier though 'cause Dale would run them more.

This was likely from the 13-7 OT Playoff game won by HHS. It was played ~ the first week of Nov. 1982. It was the first playoff game between HHS & Cov Cath

 

Yeah, from the good old days when the day after Thanksgiving really meant something. It's good that there are still games to be played, but I really liked it when the state finals were that Friday and it was more than just a shopping day.:irked:

Not sure when they went to the H but a few years before the H-Wing they had just the head of the mean bird. Several BGPr's have use the mean bird avatar, it was just the head of that. Not sure of when Cov Cath made any of the changes but Cov Cath was waaaaaaaaay bigger than HHS.

 

I have a helmet that is an exact replica of the pre-wing, block H era. If i could only figure out how to take a good picture of it, i will post it for you. I must say it is pretty cool to have.

I would say #70's (Ted Abner's) shoulder pads look like they belong on a 6'5" 350 lb. offensive lineman for the Greenbay Packers. :eek:

What was the decal on the HHS helmet? is it an H with wings? Also looks like they have the same logo as "Bluejay" buses on the left shoulder. Thanks for the pic.

 

You better not let the old-timers catch you calling it a Bluejay. It was referred to as a Swallow(sp) in it's day.

1988. He put a Philadelphia Eagles wing on the helmets and it was horrible so they didn't use anything on the helmets in 1988. 1989 was the 1st year for the block H and new uniforms. The rest is history!!!!

That photo is cool. One of my hobbies is reading old newspapers from the 60's and70's and the other day while at the Kenton co library I pulled some microfilm from 1982 and there were some great stories and photos of the birds and cch games. Cool stuff I highly recommend checking that area out next time you go there.

There is actually 2 more pictures of this play floating around somewhere in the archives. I can tell you that this play ends with #70 sacking #10. Like i have said before in other threads that this HHS team was my alltime favorite defense. This defense was undefeated and unscored upon as freshman. One Nasty Bunch!!!!!:ylsuper:

Those uniforms sure do bring back memories. The helmet decal was horrible though. I don't think they'll ever switch away from the block H as long as Dale is around.
