However, IF it is a requirement that you have to meet certain qualifications to run for an office but you don't have to prove that you meet the qualifications, then anyone can run just by saying 'Yep, I meet the standards required'. Understand, I believe Obama is a naturalized American citizen. That isn't the issue here. I want him to show it and be done with the whole matter. However, if this whole things gets thrown out, then anyone can run and claim they are a naturalized citizen and never have to prove it. Let's be honest as well, when these guys run for public office, they know they are giving up much of their privacy. Unfortunately, it goes with the territory. The same man who filed this suit also filed one asking McCain to prove that he was a naturalized citizen as he was actually born in Panama. However, he was born on a military base in Panama which is considered US soil, and when he produced it, the suit was dropped. If you don't have to prove it, then it is really an unenforceable regulation and there is no need in having it. Slight clarification - McCain is a natural born citizen and naturalized citizens do not meet the qualification for the presidency.
October 31, 200817 yr Author His mother is a natural citizen, why is this an issue?Because it is not clear that his mother lived in the US long enough as an adult to automatically pass on natural born citizenship status to Obama. If he was, in fact, born in Kenya then he could have a problem. There is another argument that if his mother renounced her citizenship before moving to Indonesia that Obama may have become an Indonesian citizen and then later became a naturalized citizen upon his return to Hawaii.

October 31, 200817 yr For what it is worth, I wouldn't provide anything until compelled. Let's face it, this is a bunch of nut jobs that will keep throwing stuff until they find something that sticks. Why make it easier for them to move on to the next item. Old documentation is sometimes spotty. My birth was not recorded until I was well into my fifties. I can imagine the field day that the conspiracy nuts would have with that one. If Senator Obama provided one piece of documentation, they would ask for more. That process would continue until they found some document with some confusion in it. The purpose of these lawsuits is not to prove where Senator Obama was born. That is well known. The purpose is to sow doubt among voters. Senator Obama is quite right to refuse to help them.

The facts of the case have not been ruled upon because Obama has refused to establish that he is a natural born citizen and put the matter to rest.
November 1, 200817 yr Why bother. Eventually this will get sorted out. Wait till he's president. Can he be impeached IF this were true? What happens next if that happens?
