October 31, 200817 yr Why won't Barack Obama simply produce his birth certificate and make all of the lawsuits about his alleged Kenyan citizenship just go away? It would be better for all concerned that this issue be resolved before the election rather than later. The Berg suit has been dismissed on a very flimsy technicality but I believe that there is at least one additional case pending in Hawaii. Warren County Judge to Decide Obama Birth Lawsuit A Warren County magistrate said he'll decide tomorrow whether Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has to get proof that Barack Obama was born in the United States. David M. Neal of Turtlecreek Township runs a political Web site. He filed suit last week, saying state and federal government leaders have failed to verify that Obama was born in Hawaii, instead of Kenya.
October 31, 200817 yr Do you think the man is that DUMB that he wouldn't have all his ducks in a row? Come on even you folks on the right have to give the man a little more credit than that.

Come on even you folks on the right have to give the man a little more credit than that. Why has he spent thousands of dollars resisting demands to prove his citizenship? Are you opposed to all candidates proving that they are constitutionally qualified to serve as president?
October 31, 200817 yr Why has he spent thousands of dollars resisting demands to prove his citizenship? Are you opposed to all candidates proving that they are constitutionally qualified to serve as president? That's the thing here. I highly doubt that there is anything there but why not provide the documents months ago to squash this?
October 31, 200817 yr Author That's the thing here. I highly doubt that there is anything there but why not provide the documents months ago to squash this?Maybe Obama's October surprise will be to finally produce a normal Hawaiian birth certificate containing no embarrassing information.
October 31, 200817 yr On the other hand, there apparently is no legal or constitutional compulsion to produce the documents. One could argue he's fighting for his right to privacy. Not sure what his motives are, but I offer that as a possibility.
October 31, 200817 yr Any supporter of his who just dismisses this is also dismissing the Constitution. Also take a look @ woodriders avatar, you're following it...

If that's not a fear-mongering statement, I don't know what is. You are, in essence, telling anyone who is planning to vote for Obama that they are un-American.

This may just be my opinion but I think it's fair to ask that one of the two finalists for the POTUS to make their birth certificate public. Has any other candidate ever not had to prove that they are eligible to run?

Has any other candidate ever not had to prove that they are eligible to run? I agree. But in my research, and in the questions I've asked of Hoot, et al, no one seems to find a requirement that a birth certificate be presented when putting one's hat in the ring. Legally, I don't think he has to. Seems like a ginormous loophole in the process.
October 31, 200817 yr Author Give me a break! If that's not a fear-mongering statement, I don't know what is. You are, in essence, telling anyone who is planning to vote for Obama that they are un-American.Why is it fear mongering to demand that a candidate actually be eligible to serve in the office that he seeks? Anybody who does not believe that a candidate should meet the constitutional eligibility requirements before assuming the presidency is being un-American, IMO. Supposedly we are a nation of laws and not of men. There is no good reason for Obama to refuse to document his eligibility to serve as McCain has done. There is no right to privacy where candidate eligibility is concerned. Nobody forced Obama to run.

In this country, a valid birth certificate is a key part of establishing one's citizenship. Any voter should have legal standing to insist that a candidate prove he is eligible to run for an office before election day.

October 31, 200817 yr Author But, there is no requirement in the process of the system that requires such proof. You even concurred that you knew of no such requirement when we discussed this weeks ago.I believe that the US Constitution trumps any other requirement. Voters have a right to know that the candidates running are qualified to hold office. Just because there is no administrative process in place that requires a birth certificate does not grant candidates the right not to prove eligibility when legally challenged.

There is no right to privacy where candidate eligibility is concerned. Nobody forced Obama to run. Once again, you're spinning the original statement, and my response. We are a nation of laws. There apparently is no law that requires anyone running for president to produce a birth certificate. There is no attempt to flout a constitutional requirement, because other than saying that one must be born in America, there's nothing that says they have to prove it. I have already agreed that I think there should be a requirement. But I do have to defend an American's right to not provide something that is not required of them. Make it a requirement for all, not just one individual.
