Two Men Arrested

Glad they found put who did it. Good work by all the authorities. Hope they get what they deserve.

I would be interested in some of the lawyers on BGP commenting on the charges filed. While there may be many more facts yet to come out, I am wondering about the chances of these charges sticking.

 

I don't ever remember hearing about someone getting charged with disorderly conduct for hanging somebody (anybody) in effigy. It makes me wonder if they wanted to charge them with something and they had a problem finding something applicable and disorderly conduct was the best fit they could find. Is it a stretch or have other people been charged with disorderly conduct for similar acts?

 

I also don't understand why they were charged with burlary and unlawful taking if they asked the fraternity for the items. Something doesn't add up. Perhaps things will get cleared up when more information is available.

While I do not agree with what these two did, I think that when you are in public office you lose at least some of the hate crime protections. But it will also bring the secret service to your front door as well, as they have to investigate any and all threats, so that latter would make it not a very good idea to do, in both the Obama and Palin cases.

 

In the Palin case it was on private property, so I don't see how anything besides an investigation by the secret service would happen. But in the Obama case, it was at a state run university, not sure about the charges, but I do think that UK has the right to punish Fischer up to and including expulsion since it was on UK property.

If I ever get hung, I hope the hangers do a satisfactory job that is acceptable to all. I guess what I'm saying is that I want to be well hung.

Actually I suppose I am guilty of a hate crime when a few years ago we had a donkey pinata at my daughter's birthday party. Donkeys have eyed me suspiciously ever since that fateful day.

 

You left out Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite. He got in trouble too when he did the same thing to the blonde girl that was running for Class President.

 

All jokes aside. Effigies of Palin or Obama are both wrong.

However hanging an effigy of Obama would make it look racist, given the history of hanging black people. Sounds like to me a bunch of college students with nothing else better to do but get some attention on the news since the one of Palin got National Coverage. I thought both incidents were inmature and silly.

So let me ask. Who was or is outraged when we saw Radical Islamists burning effigies of Bush or our flag on National News? You might now like Bush but he is our President and represents our Country.

One thing President Todd has really been preaching the past few years is campus diversity. He has made great strides in various forms. However, if he lets an incident like this go without Fischer being punished, he has no credibility in trying to create campus diversity.

Personally, I could care less who they hang up. Arresting those men who put up Obama is nothing but a classic case of censorship. Most here say they're against Obama, yet they support taking away these men's first amendment rights, which is why many of you are against Obama (i.e. him being the Communist and everything). I just don't understand it.

Who made it a blatant racial symbol?I would say over the course of American history there were far more white people hung than blacks.This country needs to move on and not be so thin skinned about everything that happens and this would be a better place to live for everyone whatever you're skin color.

My father- in-law's father was hung by a white man in Alabama. So for my wife who works at UK to have to walk by and see a black person hanging from a tree is totally uncalled for.

 

Being a white man I can't understand how my wife felt seeing that on campus. Because I didn't live through her grandfather being hung. Nor did she, but she has a father that is alive that is still haunted by those memories and has shared the story with my wife.

 

So take a minute and walk in another persons shoes before we assume this isn't a form of racism. It doesn't have anything to do with Obama. It has everything to do with the injustice that occured in 1937 in Dothan, Alabama.

 

As for the charge of disorderly conduct, had a young black man walked down and watched those men hanging a black man then there would have been a disorderly butt kicking or possible riot.

 

I think it is sad that this great country of ours still is divided over the issue of race. I do disagree that Ms. Palin should not have been hung either. Who knows what her family might have went through.
