Very reliable sources have informed 3SIB that Vols head coach Phillip Fulmer WILL NOT be retained at the end of the season. Likely, an announcement won’t be made until after the Kentucky game.

 

Also, the source has confirmed to us that several assistants from the old guard will not be retained, though the names were not divulged. The remaining coaches’ futures will be determined at a later date. The source would not go further into detail.

 

Obviously, take this for what it’s worth. But in the world of rumors, this is one that we’re confident enough in to throw out there on our blog. We know we’re sticking our neck out there. We’re honored to know people in high places — and people who know people in high places — and this is concrete enough that we’re comfortable reporting it.

I think you are 100% correct. It will be interesting to see if they can bring Cutcliffe back to UT. My guess is that he is on top of their short list.

Unfortunately, that is part of the problem on the hill this year. Trooper, who was Mr. Excitement himself along with Coach Cut, the disciplinarian, are both gone. Troop is at Oklahoma State as the Co-Off. Coordinator.

WOW, I didn't know that about Trooper. Was he let go at UT last year or just accepted a better position. I loke UT a lot and Fulmer, but I do a complete turnaround when they play UK, I hate thier guts. LOL I just love Tennessee in general and feel Fulmer is their guy.

I always said Fulmer and Tubby were in identical situations.

 

Tradition rich programs, won a national title in 98, started going down hill, but not enough to really justify firing them.

** UPDATE: 10:31 a.m. I’ve caught wind that some are saying my sources are Volquest. That’s ridiculous. They’re not. Am I concerned about the validity? Obviously, you would be. But I trust that it’s true.

 

**UPDATE: 11:12 p.m. The names thrown out there on message boards of assistants who will leave with Fulmer are OL coach Greg Adkins, DL Dan Brooks and DB Larry Slade. This is just rumor and speculation. Also hearing that it’s possible that if it leaks (blush, blush) it could be announced earlier than the end of the season. Go Vols!
