October 17, 200817 yr Unbelievable. The Sox will win the ALCS. They've still got an uphill battle but I think we've seen they won't go easily. I hope Beckett can scrape together enough to give them a chance in Game 6.
October 17, 200817 yr A couple of notes concerning the comback: This was the largest deficit overcome to win a ballgame in the postseason since 1929. And that took, of course, the Chicago Cubs to blow an 8-0 lead against the Philadelphia Athletics. J.D. Drew's walkoff single occured exactly 5 years, to the minute (12:16 am) of Aaron Boone's walkoff homerun in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. What does this mean? I have no idea.
October 17, 200817 yr Not a Sox fan, but man they made one heck of a comeback. I actually had a smile on my face at the end. I think it was mostly because I am a baseball fan and I witnessed a great baseball game. I do want the Rays to go all the way, but if they lose game six, I believe the Sox will go to the WS. The young Rays may not be able to handle that type of pressure.

I dont think Maddon was expecting Balfour and Wheeler to blow that. He did and now if they lose this series I think he will have that thought left in his mind, what if I left in Kazmir. October 17, 200817 yr I think Madden learned a valuable playoff lesson. Never take out your starter when he's cruising in a postseason game. Never. Disagree 100%...Kazmir had already thrown 111 pitches before the 32 minute top of the 7th inning. Sitting that long and with the temperature droping there's no way he should go back out there. Even if the Rays would of came away with no runs, he was still probably coming out. I believe without a doubt, most managers would of done the samething. The Rays bullpen has been very good all year, taking him out was a no brainer.

This season however, each time it looks like the Rays should implode, Maddon has found a way to energize the troops.
