October 16, 200818 yr If you pay attention to the polls you will notice that everytime McCain/Palin spend a great deal of time talking about these things their poll numbers drop?? Even tonight, if you watched CNN or saw the people with Lutz?? on Fox, undecides are not buying into it. They don't seem to care. I know it is very important to many people on this very conservative board, but is the McCain camp not smart enough to know that it is ultimately going to lose him the election?? I guess you guys think that if he keeps hammering that some of the independents/moderate republicans/moderate democrats will finally "see the light" and think that Obama is dangerous. The problem is, all the polls and people are telling the campaign that it drives them away. Again tonight, McCain came out strong and his numbers were good until we got to the Ayers/Acorn stuff and all of a sudden his numbers began to fall. The base is his, what is he going to do now because nobody else is.

Can you say with certainty that the numbers have not dropped for other reasons or because McCain has not presented these issues effectively? Any links? Statistical correlations?

I realize it's kind of hokey, but on CNN the little "meter" thing dropped like a rock when he started referencing Ayers and ACORN.
October 16, 200818 yr It's pretty obvious that the general population cares very, very little about these issues.
October 16, 200818 yr McCain may have opened up his final assault and that is through taxes. I think you may/should see a shift there and look for McCain to hammer it home. Joe the Plumber may save McCain or at least get him back into the game. Ultimately an Obama gaffe or his true feelings regarding wealth distribution has put a face to the arguement. It is still hard to fathom how one will reduce taxes on 95% of people and still pay for his programs. Particularly from someone who has historically supported tax increases.
October 16, 200818 yr I realize it's kind of hokey, but on CNN the little "meter" thing dropped like a rock when he started referencing Ayers and ACORN.Maybe the meter shows that McCain is not connecting the dots effectively. I do not think that McCain has explained why voters should care well enough. Obama claims that he was involved in educational reform when he worked with Ayers at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Exactly what does that mean? How did the students benefit (or not)? In the case of ACORN, the focus needs to be on voter registration fraud, ACORN's support of Obama, Obama's support of ACORN, and McCain needs to remind people that Obama trained community organizers who work for ACORN. I honestly believe that most Republicans and independents would care about these issues if they were properly explained.

Even the folks with Lutz on Fox last night said they didn't like it and Obama's growth in support in the red states occurred when the economy tanked and Palin began talking about Ayers. there are no dots to connect with ACORN - some people that they hired simply put names on registration forms to get paid. ACORN turned those forms over to the authorities themselves. Obama as a lawyer for ACORN and the "Justice Department???" (wrong dept. but I can't remember the right one). Obama did train community organizers, but not voter registration drive workers - those people are hired as independent contractors. The registration drive has nothing to do with the Obama campaign and McPalin cannot connect any dots.
October 16, 200818 yr I think it is based on opinions and observations. If you are right, then that is too ironic.
October 16, 200818 yr I could care less about Ayers. Acorn, however, is disturbing. Here is the truth about Obama and ACORN. CNN concludes that Obama lied when he said that doing legal work was his only involvement with ACORN.

The registration drive has nothing to do with the Obama campaign and McPalin cannot connect any dots. You obviously have never dealt with ACORN. I have personal experience with them and it is a perfect name for this group of nuts. And the easiest dots to connect are that Obama's campaign paid them over $800,000 (which you will notice Obama did not deny) for this 'get out the vote' campaign. He distributed money to them from the Woods Foundation where he was on the board with Ayers. So they paid ACORN to 'get out the vote' and this is how the organization handles the situation. But Obama cannot say anything bad about ACORN (who has a long history of this), instead blames it on a few rogue employees. Well, in my world, most businesses are held accountable for the actions of their employees and the investors hold them accountable as well. Not Obama's campaign. ACORN lies, PERIOD. I have experienced them up close and personal and can tell you just how disgusting their tactics can be. I am sure the Obama campaign has given money from very legit organizations. He should list them. This, however, is not one of them. This organization pushed for banks to lend money to people who were not creditworthy, protested against banks who wouldn't, pushed legislators to loosen up the regulations and put pressure on banks to do it, then protested against those same banks for charging a higher interest rate. As we all know, your interest rate is a direct ratio to the risk factor for a customer possibly defaulting on a loan. They had a hand in this mortgage mess. Not the only hand, by far, but they were a negative factor none the less.

The registration drive has nothing to do with the Obama campaign and McPalin cannot connect any dots. ACORN is committing widespread voter registration fraud and is under investigation in at least 14 states. The Obama campaign paid an ACORN affiliated company $832,000. Obama once represented ACORN as a trial lawyer and he also trained ACORN community organizers to apply pressure to banks to make subprime loans. While on the board at Chicago Annenberg Challenge, Obama directed large sums of money to ACORN. Those are the dots and they raise some important questions like: Why has Obama lied about his documented ties to ACORN, only admitting that he represented them as a lawyer 13 years ago? Will the Obama campaign funnel money to ACORN in the closing days of this campaign for its so-called "get out the vote efforts," knowning that the payments will not be reported to the public until after the election? What role will ACORN play in Obama's administration? Does Obama support continued federal funding of this corrupt group of left wing activists?

Obama did represent them 13 years ago Obama was a guest speaker at an ACORN training session (twice) he was not a trainer. McCain spoke to them two years ago and told them "they were what was good about America. The money went to a group that then gave a small percentage of it to ACORN. He did not give the money to an ACORN affiliated group. ACORN has turned in all of the canvassers that they have found who submitted false registrations. ACORN is not under investigation, reported on news just about 30 minutes ago, some of their contractors are and the names are continuing to be turned over. ACORN works with the local secretaries of state to prevent "registration fraud" - there has, BTW, been no link to voter fraud AT ALL.

Was Obama lying when he denied ever training ACORN or is he lying now?
