October 13, 200818 yr What do you mean? Other than being the same number & sharing some physical features, they're very different WR's. Abney made people miss and used his speed. Dicky Lyons Jr. was more of a tough guy on the field. It was starting to come up that Dicky Lyons Jr. was going to get a shot at the NFL. This obviously hurts his chances.
October 13, 200818 yr It appeared to me that he was...........not sure about it being a penalty since I understand that all horse collar tackles are not illegal. There definitely should have been a penalty on the play.
October 13, 200818 yr Yes he was. There was not a flag on the play. I was at the game and didn't have the best view, but I didn't think he was horse-collard.
October 13, 200818 yr Was he horse collared? He was, but the guy also got an arm in front of Dicky's chest, so it wasn't your stereotypical reach out and grab. Not illegal/dirty. Just unfortunate. Anybody think there's a shot for a medical RS?
October 13, 200818 yr I would like to watch the replay of the tackle. They only showed it on the jumbotron once. But, wasn't the next play the blocked FG that Captain Munnerlynn ran back? A horse collar tackle & penalty would have given us a 1st down, and the offense would have remained on the field. My brother was hollering for a horse collar, but he normally yells at the refs just for fun. Maybe I was too quick to dismiss him (this time).

The replay was very nasty and it was obvious that his leg bent in a way that it should not have bent. By the way, his career is over.
October 13, 200818 yr While it was an unfortunate play for Dicky and the Cats, ... it was not a horsecollar.
October 13, 200818 yr A horsecollar tackle is when the the persons hand goes behind BOTH the jersey and the bads and they pull him down. This was not the case for Dicky. The tackler got his hand only behind the jersey and not the pads so it isn't considered a horsecollar tackle. I know this because I remember the analysts on TV explaining the new rule at the beggining of the season.
October 13, 200818 yr I don't think it was a dirty play. It was just too much momentum for his knee to take. And even if they would've called the penalty, his career would still be over.
October 13, 200818 yr I really feel for this kid, and hope for a speedy recovery, I hope that he can try to get on with NFL Europe and maybe work his way back here (if that's what he wants), that said I think he would be an amazing coach as well.
October 13, 200818 yr Dicky gave his all every single down he was out there. There aren't many guys you can honestly say that about. He was small, but played with no fear. I'll NEVER forger the hit he had on Steltz last year in the LSU game.

His leadership will be missed, especially with this young offense. With that said, I think he'll still get a few sniffs from the NFL. I wonder if he'll be able to go for the combine? Not likely, but I'm pulling for the kid. Horrible way to see somebody end their career.
