Sometime before long the AD, Superint, & Principal will have some discussions about GC football program and have the program pointed in the right direction. GC AD Alister has a passion for Football. Alister was offer a Football staff position at Ashland high school three or four years ago that he ponder for a while. I'm sure GC football will have better days ahead.

I really feel for the kids at GC. Keep your heads up and continue to work hard.

Absolutely! That is a point that imo some seem to not realize. High School football or any other sport, academics and anything else for that matter is supposed to be about the kids, not the adults wanting to prove their own agenda!

The kids at GCHS have been put in the middle of someones "spitting" contest since the very beginning of GCHS.

I am not trying to come across angry. These posts are not easily swallowed, I know. I wish there was more love expressed towards these kids. I have treated and watched a lot of young men and women go through GCHS and have done everything I can do for them. If more people joined up with the boosters and helped with the field, feed the boys on friday, take the seniors out as a group, do group related outings.....anything at all and I promise you'd see some improvement in attitudes. 1-5 record is hard, but they are still our boys and they need support. It is easy to support when they are 5-1, so keep the same feelings when the chips are down.

Guys, if you are reading this thread, I am proud of you and I am glad to know that when your playing days are done you will be a green and gold alumni with me. As said in "TOP GUN", call me and I'll be your wingman any day.

Mr Yonce, tare down that wall.

I would love to see Greenup County be successful, but until they unite and make one school system, I fear it will not happen. There is still a great devide and until that disappears they will always be a 4A school playing with a 1A team.

They are divide in the JFL, the middle school, and it conitues in the high school.

Good luck to Greenup County

As you recall Ashland had a 2-8 year last season. There is no reason for this program to hang there heads because look what Ashland is doing this year.

You are right, wins and losses do matter. I was trying to point out that even with wins you can't make some people happy. Coach Maynard has more wins than anyone as a coach in the football program and they had petitions AT THE FIELD during the pre-season scrimmage (during his last season at GC)asking people to sign to have him fired! I know, I was asked to sign it. This is why you don't see me in Green and Gold. Not only was that class-less, it's whats wrong at GC. I am just so tired of the factions. I love GCHS and the kids, but the parents do not allow them to enjoy what is supposed to be the best years of their lives. I follow the teams and support them in all the ways I can, but to be able to go and watch is painful to my ears because all the parents and fans do is complain about something. Enough is enough!

I was not at this school when all this was going on. Since my kids have been there Sammons has been the coach. And as I'm sure every school has a few bad apples(parents) but that does not mean us all. My main and only concern is for my children not the politics of GCHS.

You are right on the mark, since my kids were in middle school at Wurtland the main game they were told to concentrate on was playing against Mckell. Then they get to the High School and have to play on the same team. It makes no sense to me how they do this.

I was not intending to include all parents, everyone knows who they were and the current ones as well.

Ok Ram first off, Younce is no longer there. Second, we have to divide up in JFL, There are 250 kids in the program, Could I really have 40 kids on the same team? Russell also splits kids up, heck little league splits kids up, that will eventually play together in high school. I dont know the answer to the problem. But I dont think dividing kids up early is the biggest problem.

I know Younce isn't there anymore, but I couldn't remember the new Superintendent's name, and I used Younce for dramatic effect.

I mean no disrespect to Greenup County, like I said, I wish them the best.

I can say for a fact that some of the parents are doing everything possible to help with the good attitude of the boys. Do you know what has been going on at GCHS this entire year, every week a special present is given to honor the seniors in their locker(inside so that it isn't taken the wrong way, these have been bought by the senior moms), everyboy has their locker "decorated" the same way and right now, it is hard to put anything else on them. The boys are given a goodie bag every week, posters are put up everywhere and tonite the seniors were treated to a special dinner at a former coaches house, a power point presentation was made in their honor, special tee-shirts were given out, they bought their mothers special pins to wear tomorrow night at their last game in their "house". It is very hard to keep attitude up but it doesn't help when the same old stuff is brought up about "which side of the county" you are from. Maybe, they made a mistake in the 70's and made all these large county schools but what is done is done and now we have to go on. I love the people in Greenup County and yes that does include Raceland and Russell(only on certain nights) and these boys are our future - let's let them play and have fun their senior year. I certainly don't want to relive my teenage years through my boys. I love the Musketeers and I am a Proud MM(Musketeer Mom).:dancingpa

Seems like every year there is a thread about Greenup County underperforming and the politically charged atmosphere over there. What's the deal - is it an "east-west" thing? If someone has any history on this, feel free to shoot me a PM.

I do know that Greenup gave Mason County all they could handle last season.

I am glad to hear that these things are going on. I just know from being a student/athlete at GC in the 80's how divided people are when it comes to kids and who should play. I guess my main problem is that it is ONE school and the name Musketeers was for the three schools that consolidated and the Three Musketeer's motto was "all for one and one for all", and that is not only false for this school, it has never been. We as supporter's need to do just what you and others are doing in the locker room and having dinners, etc. What everyone else needs to do is keep their mouths shut and let the coaches coach. We have too many Chiefs and not enough Indians. Too many parents watch ESPN and think they know sports. Most don't know enough to speak the terminology let alone run a drill or schedule out an off season program. They will coach a little league team or pee wee football and all of a sudden, they are experienced enough to critique the true coaches. I have been around sports all my life and my dad was a coach and was groomed by Coach Lucas to become a coach. I chose a different path, even though I am consumed with sports. I continue to be best friends with several coaches in and out of the area and stand on the sidelines each friday night and in my seat during basketball and in the bleachers during baseball and I still don't have what it takes to be a coach. My point is, let the coaches coach and let the others be followers and great supporters. We have too many parents that want to be watch dogs and whistle blowers and too many nay-sayers. I guess it boils down to a lot of jealousy between parents and who's kid gets to play more than the others. There is no more East vs West county and we need to finally accept that.

Wow Doc, feel better?

Back to the game.....Go Muskies, 61-5 underdogs. I like being the home dog. If you cant get fired up for senior night and being this big of a underdog at home, I dont know what it will take to get fired up. Let's play hard and shock the area tonight. Go GC.
